It’s that time of the year. You can’t log onto Facebook, Twitter, or even scan the fashion feeds without catching wind of what folks have in store as far as New Years resolutions go.
Though I kind of grimace whenever I come across detailed descriptions of friends’ exercise regimes (‘Audrey is chucking her Shake Weight back and forth and sweating like a stuffed hog’) and their frightening kitchen ventures, (‘Lucy is tossing some kale, cumin, and cottage cheese into the blender for supper’), I do like reading about the various goals others have set for themselves as they look ahead to the upcoming year.
In that spirit, I thought I’d toss out three resolutions I’ve resolved to stick to when it comes to my virtual fashion.
(1) Take chances. Like all of us, I’m often guilty of ‘playing it safe’ when it comes to in-world shopping and styling. I’ve got my bucket list of favorite designers, have a pretty defined style, and know what I like. This year, I want to venture out of my little safety bubble a bit– throw together colors I normally wouldn’t combine, try out pieces (and combinations) I don’t usually choose for myself, and tear myself away from the fashion feed so that I can draw ideas from new sources of inspiration, like that ‘do I saw the girl down the hall sporting at the office yesterday, or the cool mailer in my box that was bursting with bold hues.
(2) Seek out newness. This branches off of my first resolution a bit. In the coming year, I’m committed to spending more time wandering the grid with the sole purpose of finding some hidden gems– those designers who you don’t see regularly on the feed who are producing unique, quirky things worthy of our attention. I might weave an odd piece or two into my ensembles that’ll make you say, “Huh?”, but if it means introducing you to a cool new content creator, I’m up for it. This doesn’t mean you’ll see less of my favorites in my posts and photos, but it does mean they’ll be sprinkled a bit more liberally with some new flavors.
(3) Blog for the right reasons. Like (most of) you, I’m not here to make millions, become a SLebrity, or find an escape from RL. I do what I do because I love playing virtual paper dolls and having a creative outlet. This year, my posts will continue to carry on that purpose– and really not waiver much from that goal. Even though I might not be the first to blog the latest and greatest on the grid, catalogue every freebie released in real time, or toss up dozens of posts a week, I do promise to present you with something unique and interesting every time I do blog. No more hastily assembled entries or sloppy Photoshop work for this girl. 2011 is about celebrating the reason I blog in the first place: because it’s just so darn fun.
What fashion/blog-related resolutions have you all set out for yourselves?
(PS: Loved Luna Jubilee’s choice of Sienna for the upcoming week. It’s usually one of my favorite fall colors but I think I’d try either of these looks out in winter, too).
