52 Weeks of Color: Indigo

3

belgar's 52 weeks of color: indigo

Allo, Poppets.

Search no further, I’ve got your shopping list for the week.

Well, the beginning of it anyway.

(1) Be sure to drop in to [elikatira] to check out the new hair (and shoes!) that keep emerging.  Every time I sneak by I seem to leave with a new ‘do or two.  Loved the ‘Later’ style for the loose braid in the back that, of course, you can’t actually see in my shot.  Go pop on a demo when you get a chance.

(2) Head over to Lindsay Rozen’s shop and try your luck at her new gacha eye machine.  I knew I wanted the ‘ocean’ tinted ones when I began, but since it took a few tries (read: 6) to get them, I actually ended up leaving with some new colors.  I’m not one to switch out my eyes very often, but for 50 L, why not?

(3) Check out the new offerings at the Dressing Room.  Swinging by the discount shop is always soothing after you blow most of your Linden elsewhere, and the new theme is ‘Blue.’

(4) Get on over to [glow] studio if you haven’t been lately, because Jocelyn Anatine has been consistently putting out fresh, creative work.  Earrings, necklaces, eyelashes…you def. deserve some new ones.

(5) Get your tush over to Doppelganger Inc. and snatch up the gift sitting on the foyer table.  I’m not a huge freebie hunter, but this one is worth fighting lag for.  A crisp white (and free!) shirtdress will be great way to close out your day.

How’d I do with Luna Jubilee’s color challenge this week?  I think once you mix all the blues together you get indigo, right?

THE SL HOUSE & GARDEN GROUP AWARDS: Second Style, Best Magazine

0

Jennaa Loire, from SL House & Garden, and who also writes Fashionable Furnishings for Second Style, sent me a private plurk… “Did you get your trophy?” I rushed to dig through my inventory as fast as RL would allow. This is what I found!!!!

second style sl h&g best magazine trophy

Thank you for the nominations and votes for Best Magazine in the SL House & Garden Group Awards. I’m very honored and feel very grateful to be recognized. This award would have not been possible with out the hard work and dedication of my team. They make the magazine what it is with the beautiful content provided both in words and photography.

I huge thank you to my editor and friend, Felicity Blumenthal. She is the backbone of the operation and I wouldn’t be able to do any of this on my own.

Winter’s Embrace

There are things in this world that are beautiful to behold.

Some are nice and pleasing.

And some call you from deep inside and let you know that they are yours, and are waiting for you. But you have to take the leap. You have to make them yours. Read the rest of this entry »

52 Weeks of Color: Sienna

0

belgar's 52 weeks of color: sienna

It’s that time of the year.  You can’t log onto Facebook, Twitter, or even scan the fashion feeds without catching wind of what folks have in store as far as New Years resolutions go.

Though I kind of grimace whenever I come across detailed descriptions of friends’ exercise regimes (‘Audrey is chucking her Shake Weight back and forth and sweating like a stuffed hog’) and their frightening kitchen ventures, (‘Lucy is tossing some kale, cumin, and cottage cheese into the blender for supper’), I do like reading about the various goals others have set for themselves as they look ahead to the upcoming year.

In that spirit, I thought I’d toss out three resolutions I’ve resolved to stick to when it comes to my virtual fashion.

(1) Take chances.  Like all of us, I’m often guilty of ‘playing it safe’ when it comes to in-world shopping and styling.  I’ve got my bucket list of favorite designers, have a pretty defined style, and know what I like.  This year, I want to venture out of my little safety bubble a bit– throw together colors I normally wouldn’t combine, try out pieces (and combinations) I don’t usually choose for myself, and tear myself away from the fashion feed so that I can draw ideas from new sources of inspiration, like that ‘do I saw the girl down the hall sporting at the office yesterday, or the cool mailer in my box that was bursting with bold hues.

(2) Seek out newness.  This branches off of my first resolution a bit.  In the coming year, I’m committed to spending more time wandering the grid with the sole purpose of finding some hidden gems– those designers who you don’t see regularly on the feed who are producing unique, quirky things worthy of our attention.  I might weave an odd piece or two into my ensembles that’ll make you say, “Huh?”, but if it means introducing you to a cool new content creator, I’m up for it.  This doesn’t mean you’ll see less of my favorites in my posts and photos, but it does mean they’ll be sprinkled a bit more liberally with some new flavors.

(3) Blog for the right reasons.  Like (most of) you, I’m not here to make millions, become a SLebrity, or find an escape from RL.  I do what I do because I love playing virtual paper dolls and having a creative outlet.  This year, my posts will continue to carry on that purpose– and really not waiver much from that goal.  Even though I might not be the first to blog the latest and greatest on the grid, catalogue every freebie released in real time, or toss up dozens of posts a week, I do promise to present you with something unique and interesting every time I do blog.  No more hastily assembled entries or sloppy Photoshop work for this girl.  2011 is about celebrating the reason I blog in the first place: because it’s just so darn fun.

What fashion/blog-related resolutions have you all set out for yourselves?

(PS: Loved Luna Jubilee’s choice of Sienna for the upcoming week.  It’s usually one of my favorite fall colors but I think I’d try either of these looks out in winter, too).

Bottle Bird Took All My Money

It started innocently enough. I went to Bottle Bird to get a shirt of some sort to match these pants. And then, I realized that they had created the Wallpaper Shoes that I had coveted a few weeks ago, so I had to have THOSE too!

But then I started looking around. EEK! Cute Boutique alert! Read the rest of this entry »

Happy New Year

belgar's 52 weeks of color: silver

Another combo post– this time a quick one.

Just wanted to share my ‘silver’ submission for Luna Jubilee’s color challenge and extend my best as you begin putting together your New Year’s plans (and outfits).

My NYE recs. for your avatar’s garb are as follows: Tres Blah for some evening-appropriate makeup and nails;  Mon Tissu for a healthy dash of feminine; Tee*fy and Villena for a touch of whimsical; Luc for the jewelry that everyone will be talking about all night; and Maitreya for the statement pieces you’ll build your whole ensemble from.

Here’s to closing out the decade with a bang in both lives!

and this world you gave me

Ivalde. Just the name brings to mind classic garments, done with much love and an eye for detail. Neferia Abel is a genius that dances between fashion eras and does so with much grace. Nef is a true Second Life fashion icon.

Her latest release, the Noela coat is perfect for this time of year. I adore the wide fur lined bottom and am a big fan of the collar. Very pretty. I paired it with the Maitreya Moxie shoes which I wear very very often and seriously, only in SL can sandals with socks be sexy. And they are. Very.

I am going to take this opportunity to wish you and yours the very happiest of holidays. I hope all of you reading these words feel as loved, cherished and blessed as I do.

Merry Christmas from my home to yours.

52 Weeks of Color: Cerise and Green

belgar's 52 weeks of color: cerise & green

I’m meshing my color challenge posts this week because (1) I’m late getting cerise up, and (2) I want to squeeze in a New Year’s post before 2010 is history.

I didn’t actually combine cerise and green in one ensemble, but I think you could interchange the pieces in all three of these looks in some inventive and fun ways without much clashing. I made sure to include lots of bows, stripes, ribbons, and sparkle– consider it my remix on the traditional Christmas post!

I popped over to *BOOM* this week and nabbed a few of the things shown here, including the sweater vest and holiday tee. The holiday tees are a steal– 50 L for three colors (with two lengths apiece), and you can choose from two different sets. Aranel Ah has some better shots of the tops on her Flickr page, if you want to take a gander before heading over. I don’t care who you are or where you come from– we all love a good cheapie holiday tee.

I’m still working bits of Mon Tissu’s new collection into my looks, too. This week I’ve got a bit more of the So Boho Blouse for you to see, and the green skirt from one of the adorable party dresses the girls made. Loved the way it looked with my new Audrey updo from Exile.

My final visit this week was to Maitreya. I wear Onyx’s hair pretty often, but I’m sometimes guilty of dashing off before I have a chance to browse the racks of clothes. I nabbed the Viento skirt and a tank you’ll see in my next post. The skirt comes in some adorable color combinations– there’s really something for everyone.

Best wishes to everyone celebrating Christmas at the end of the week. Here’s hoping Santa brings you something good!

Mimikri is a store that I have loved for years. I blog most of the new releases and each time I say….omg this is my favorite, EVER! Until the next release. Her latest release Frou Frou is….pretty freaking awesome. The name sums it up….it is girly, feminine and so well made.

I finished alll my Christmas shopping today so I am exhausted and off to bed.
