The first issue of Second Style magazine was published in April of 2006, here we are now…. April 2011. Five years is a feat for any magazine, virtual or real. We’ve been providing our audience with the latest trends in virtual clothing, accessories, furnishings, etc for as long as most Second Life users can remember. So it comes with great sadness for HeatherDawn and myself that we have to tell our faithful readers that we will be closing our doors.
I have personally been with the magazine for nearly two years now, and I have immensely enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of such a great project. The people I’ve had the opportunity to work with, the excitement of seeing each issue go to “print”, I’ve learned so much, and have grown so much through this experience. To say this goodbye is anything but heartbreaking would be a lie. I know HeatherDawn feels the same, probably for her the sentiment is doubled, or tripled because she has been with the magazine since the very beginning, and really this is her baby.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The downturn in the Second Life economy has been difficult to combat, and our resources have become too low to maintain the magazine any longer. We’ve discussed numerous options, cutting back here or there…but it wouldn’t be fair to anyone – - our staff, our readers, or our advertisers.
We are endlessly grateful to everyone for having supported Second Style over the years, and are so proud of the integrity our magazine has maintained throughout. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing here some of our April 2011 issue, which has not, and will not be released in the “magazine format”. We hope you all enjoy seeing the stories and editorials.
Thank you again for the endless support, and an amazing 5 years.

There is so much that is awesome I’m about to show you today, that you might burst from joy. TRY to contain yourself PLEASE!
First off – the mix and match top and bottoms from PEQE let you make any color combo that suits your fancy! As you can see, I was quite tickled. I am wearing it with the KALEI release of jewelry from DONNA FLORA – who DOES have new stuff at Chic Limited, but just not THIS stuff.
I’m complicated like that.
So – 4pm, CHIC LIMITED APRIL CYCLE OPENS! YAAAAAAAAAAAY Read the rest of this entry »

When I popped over to Disco Deals earlier today to go shopping, I knew I had to have the Kokeshi Dolls for my dining room. From Karizmatic they are a great doll or decoration for your home. You get a boy and a girl in the set and the set of two will only set you back $L79! Which, in my world is The Awesome.

A good friend just said “Oh I forget Sachi makes clothes” upon seeing me in this gown.
Note to self, delete this person from my friends list for being a doofus. Read the rest of this entry »

We are running a bit behind for our March issue, but have managed to pack it full of goodness to make up for the time lost. Our 44th issue is a little bit of a mix up across the board, a little something for everyone. The warmer weather is creeping up, and we are all itching to strip off a few layers and get out and enjoy ourselves…
James warms things right up with his Country Living spread, taking a look at some the coming season wear, while in Bleeding Edge he looks at a darker side. Fayne’s Fresh Face of the month is Erratic Rain of the overnight success store; Erratic.
Kenzie’s Fashionable Furnishings this month gives a really creative way to modify some of your existing home spaces and give it a very unique look. While Rylan’s Destination Diva, takes us to a sim that is perfect for the season changing, and I’ve loaded you up with my picks for this month’s must have accessories.
Sophia has an amazing must read interview this month with the one and only Elikapeka Tiramisu, she asks her all the questions you’ve been dying to have answered. Elysium has Spring on her mind, and gives us a burst of colors to go with her fairy look for March.

Luna made some splendid choices for her color challenge these past couple of weeks, didn’t she? I can’t think of two lovelier colors to usher in the arrival of one of my favorite seasons.
If you’re in the mood for some budget-friendly spring shopping, pop over to Albero for their Kawaii Hunt (3/19 – 4/2). The hunt is HUD-based, so once you locate all 16 objects you’ll be able to collect your winnings.
As soon as this post goes up I’ll actually be heading over to the Pacific Crisis Fundraiser. 100% of the funds raised will be donated to Americares– a charity specializing in disaster relief and humanitarian aid. Props to Glam Affair for donating the space the event is behind held.
Enjoy what’s left of the weekend, friends!

The Passion SkyBox from Somnia is an terribly cute house for only 95L and comes full furnished!
It has a sunken living room feature which completely puts me in mind of when Woodstock redecorated his bird house, I want to serve drinks and wear a lounge suit, totally. It’s retro awesome.

The house comes with lots of furniture so you can play around and make it your own. I was completely tickled. I haven’t decorated in so long I forgot how much fun it can be.

If you are one of those people who has a mate who finds you sexually attractive, you’ll be pleased to know the bed is, ahem, functional.
/me clears throat. WHAT IS A SINGLE GIRL SUPPOSED TO DO?
Sit on it I guess.

One of my favorite pieces of furniture is this huge entertainment center. Sanura provides some bric-a-brac for decorating but I think I could fill it on my own with glee.

Today I’m also wearing clothes from Somnia, from the Pure Juice event, and the lovely Irina skin from Amacci.
Time to go shopping don’t you think?

Luna was, in my opinion, wise to tone down our next two assignments color challenge assignments after that punch of electric green we wrestled with last round. A bunch of neons in a row could very well have given us all seizures– or intense flashbacks to the 80′s. Not sure which is worse.
I’m afraid that even after my efforts, these ensembles still remind me of my attempts at sepia and at taupe. Perhaps there’s no way to escape that, though?
I couldn’t weave all of my latest acquisitions into these two outfits, but wanted to mention that Azure Electricteeth’s new shop LaViere is up and running (and adorable); [NSD] has a couple of new dresses for spring (plus a snappy new jacket); and there’s some new hair at Clawtooth that’s all kinds of billowy loveliness. I need to carve out some time to take a peek at the new [LeLutka] hair I’m seeing all over the feed, too. Maybe I’ll see you there?

…when it’s love if it’s not rough it isn’t fun…..
Today is a departure because thanks to Jackal Ennui I’ll be showing off some fetishwear. Jackal just wanted to get me nearly naked, I think. Read the rest of this entry »

Shockingly (kind of like the color itself), this week’s color challenge assignment wasn’t so bad.
For whatever reason, when I slapped on these snappy bottoms from Emery (Love Emery, don’t you?) they made me want to shout with the rest of my ‘do, too. Cue the spiked bracelet, ear plugs (Nox. rocks, BTW), black nail polish, and pointy shoes. Stepping out of your comfort zone is just grand, sometimes. Here’s to doing it a bit more often.
Before I sign off, a quick reminder: Mon Tissu’s Anouk and Elie dropped a few gifts into the ‘Mon Tissu Soiree’ group notices. Pop online to snag ‘em up– and for goodness sake, join the group if you haven’t already. You can become an official member while you browse the latest and greatest at the store’s lovely Lula location.

There has been a wonderful groundswell among creators to put together a fundraiser, donating 100% of the proceeds to the NEW ZEALAND RED CROSS to aid victims of last Tuesdays 6.3 magnitude earthquake.
Many of my favorite creators are there and it’s heartwarming to see so many people coming together to help. Jori Watler donated the space on Copley Square to the effort and you can find just TONS of easels set up, all the vendors donating money for items your pixel person will love.
The company I work for has offices in Christchurch itself, and we are blessed that our team members sustained only minor injuries to no injuries at all. Our facility was damaged as were our goods inside. We’ll replace the stuff. We could never replace the people.
We consider ourself one large global family, so I just went and did what you do when your family needs help – I went and gave what I could. I can’t be there to deliver aid. But I can give the Red Cross some money to do it for me.
So, what’d I buy?
STUFF! Check out these awesome items for sale.

First of all, REPUBLIC has a FATPACK of the cutest flats EVAH for $L199 !!! OMG! Flower Power indeed. These aren’t all the colors, they are just the ones I bothered to rezz. LOVE! Read the rest of this entry »
