Tribal Prints

Look Book Seven (Fall 2010)

If you’re like me, you’re starting to get bored of the semi-predictable array of fall items flooding your favorite shops and fashion feeds.  It’s not that we don’t love a cozy, fall-colored freebie scarf or garments sprinkled in leaves, it’s just…we long to mix it up at least one day a week, right?

This week’s Look Book offering attempts to to just that.

For your consideration, fashionistas, I’d like to turn your attention to tribal prints.  Most that you’ll find at the store are pretty darn tenacious and give off an artsy/funky vibe.  They’re appearing in almost every form imaginable, from clunky accessories and sexy dresses to boxy-cut suits and tall, thick boots.

Deciding what to pair tribal prints with might seem challenging, but you really needn’t go any further than your own closet for inspiration to help you get creative with this trend.  Try pairing your tribal top with your military jacket for a nice muted/bold balance, or with a solid skirt in one of the warm autumn colors that are so easy to find in the store lately.  Tribal prints are fun to layer with solid neutrals like black or white and look perfect with your 60′s era skirts and Jackie cardigans.

As with everything else this season, take some chances, but know when to stop. In this case, you want to look like you took a walk on the wild side– not like you got lost while visiting it.

You smell like heaven

We did it…we survived the week. I have to be honest and say that there were moments I wasn’t sure if Friday was ever going to come. I owe my survival of this week to cold meds and Lifetime channel. Okay and ice cream.

I begged, pleaded, whined and I made a few threats. THAT is what it took to get Catero Revolution to be a Guest Blogger.  Don’t tell him but it was so worth it.

Want to get in touch with your inner David Gandy?

Like Gandy, CJ Carnot’s Savile Row vendibles are sleek, stylish and hand-made in the United Kingdom.

Though Mr. Carnot has been one-half of the 5th & Oxford team since 2006 (when it was known as Tête a Pied), this is his first significant foray into the male clothing market. Carnot has made his niche with those seeking well tailored suits and full outfits. His inspiration for the brand is drawn in name and in spirit from real life Savile Row, a district of traditional men’s tailors in central London whose creations are custom-made to each customer.

Channeling the essence of fictional ad agency mogul Don Draper, Savile Row’s “Madison Avenue” (L$400) redux suit pays homage to 1960s fashion aesthetics. Shown here in gray, this ego-driven 2-button suit is also available in subtle shades of blue and green. Each freshly pressed suit each comes with 3 choices of tie colour with a white shirt and a sculpted narrow lapels option. It can also be topped with a sculpted hat (L$100) with colors matched to suits.

Knowing that most ladies will likely need to help their gents out with a little fashion direction, Carnot has made all fashion items transferable.

Mod State of Mind

Look Book Six (Fall 2010)

Hailed by critics for its poignant writing, perfectly polished acting, and engaging portrayal of life at a New York advertising agency in the early 1960′s, AMC’s Mad Men deserves a nod, too, for the profound effect it’s had on our closets this fall.

Borrowing fashion inspiration from television and cinema certainly isn’t a new trend.  It wasn’t that long ago that we tuned in to Sex and the City’s weekly broadcast not for the next plot twist in Carrie’s life, but to see what she was wearing when it happened.  We drooled over the visual medley of designer clothes and lusted for a styling ability a fraction as compelling as Patricia Field’s.

This fall we’re doing it again, but this time we’re technically taking a step back in order to be fashion forward.

Mad Men is, if nothing else, visually compelling.  Any given week, you’re invited to feast your eyes on a combination of starched elegance, structurally complex underthings, and hair styles evocative of your grandmother’s glory days.  Extremely lady-like styling is back, so embrace the silhouette of a full figure, the courtliness of a longer hemline, and the general minimal, streamlined nature of 60′s style.  Expect the pieces at your local boutique to feature heavier fabrics, retro-feeling geometric prints, and a heavy helping of modesty.  It’s what you don’t flaunt that makes you enticing– not what you do.

Isn’t that what your Mother used to tell you, too?  Darn her for always being right.

That life is beautiful around the world

Friday afternoon my husband called me at work to ask me if I wanted to go away for the night..um YES! So yesterday at this time we were in the beautiful fresh mountain air. Today? We are home, under covers on the couch watching movies and football because it is rainy and chilly. Sigh.

The Makeup Counter Is OPEN – At Adam N Eve

0

As Lucy Van Pelt says, the first step is knowing you HAVE a problem.

My problem is, I’m suddenly addicted to tattoo layer makeup.

I realize that I’m late to the dance, not late enough to be retro and far too late to even BE part of the avante garde crowd who’s been wearing it so long, yawn stretch, they’re bored already.

This does not curb my enthusiasm.

Sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve has opened the make up counter in their skin shop and added versatality to their already wide selection of skins. I tried on Bianca tone 1 and 2 and settled on tone 2 to show you the makeup options over.

There are eye shadow options, I’m showing you lemongrass on the left and morning dew on the right. Your left and right. Not mine. Oh they are labeled you’ll get it. Read the rest of this entry »

To celebrate Second Style is taking a look at what there is to offer in our virtual world as far as Fall fashions go.  While, planning in a virtual world has its own timeline, and doesn’t necessarily revolve around seasons, we did manage to pull together a very wide range of upcoming and current fall releases.

I know what I did but I still don’t know the reason

2

I am going to cheat today with my blog picture…and you can see why, right?

My sweet Leah <3

In the middle of putting an outfit together to blog, my lovely friend Leah McCullough of Naive and of Leah McCullough Photography decided to cheer me up after a pretty blah day and take a picture of us together. Um…YES. I have to say that she was very patient with me while I made dinner (ordered pizza) and sat down for a lovely meal (in front of the tv) and cleaned up (threw away the paper plates and gave crusts to the pugs).  I adore the picture, it came out awesome and literally once I got my act together..it took her like 15 minutes tops to take it.

Leah is a vision of beauty…as always and I have her style credits listed down there. If you are wanting a portrait taken, do not be shy..simply IM her and she will get you all set up!

Second Style Guest Blogger – Grazia Horwitz

4

The beautiful Grazia Horwitz just celebrated her 4th rezday yesterday and has been been charming us across the grid with her fashion sense ever since.  Grazia used to actually be one of the original bloggers here..and well, I will let her tell you in her own words.

Grazia Horwitz
I never thought I’d be posting here again, and much less being so excited about it.

It’s been 4 years since I first logged on to Second Life and almost 4 years since I posted my first entry on Second Style blog, and we’re both still around! Go on, I encourage you to check the archives and look up some of my old entries on Second Style blog. I did, and it was a mix of “dawww” and “omg, what was I thinking” when I saw my old work back (http://blog.secondstyle.com/2006/12/sols-city-trips.html) . Second Style, after so many years, is still an icon in SL fashion publications, with the oldest -and in my opinion- best known magazines and the blog, which, after a period of being pretty dormant, has been succesfully revived. Kudos to the current contributors!!

But before I really lose myself in reminiscing, let’s go on to the purpose of this entry, sharing fashion with you guys!

I’m wearing this week’s 50 L$ Friday item from Kyoot, which of course right now is not available anymore, but you can still grab the black version of the Micro Pants and the Soft Warm Neck Wrap which is out for this week’s Stumblebum brigade.

The lacey top is another exclusive. The Claven Lace Blouses from Whippet & Buck are available exclusively at their shop at Le.Look . It’s a beautiful match of romantic lace, with an edgy zip up back.

I have paired the outfit with  Tesla’s violet Kensington boots and fri.day’s Mauve Wide Waist Belt (coloured for a ton sur ton effect and to match the boots). The rings I’m wearing are both from Paper Couture, the Limelight ring left and the Spring Multi Stone ring on my right hand.

Last but not least, I’m wearing Laq’s new skin Isabel in fair (make up 3) with the black eyebrow add-on, and Boon’s BAB853 hair in chocolate.
