Second Style Issue 31: Rebirth

0

Jan 2010

Here is to hoping you’ve kicked off your New Year with a great start, spending the last moments of 2009 and First of 2010 with loved ones.  We are ringing in the New Year in Style, Second Style…

The Second Style Sim; Le Zoo will shortly be undergoing a complete rebuild, a rebirth if you will.  It seems fitting with the New Year, new outlook, and all of the new faces you will see in this issue!

Our style icon this month is none other then Anya Ohmai, who has recently joined the LeLutka team to create some fresh amazing looks.  Brigitte has taken some time to sit with her and pick her brain on all things fashion related. Ana Lutetia is back with another Fresh Faces, this month featuring FuseMelon, while Gabby Panacek’s To Top It Off is takes a look at Rebirth of Color.  You won’t want to miss the pictorial this month full of skin by James Schwarz either.

We have a TON of new faces this month as well;  Clyde Saunders has joined the team to do a special piece each month on menswear through color, starting off this month with a special look at Black.  Luna Jubliee has also joined the team, to take over the Mini Guide, and she offers up some fantastic suggestions on skin wear.  In addition, we are also welcoming Tenshi Vielle, who will be dishing out some looks at SL art for us each month, starting it off with a look at sketchers.  And last but certainly not least, we have a very special piece that Winter Jefferson has given us just for our New Year’s edition, which is a MUST READ!  Welcome to everyone, whether you are staying on, or just doing a guest spot, we are so happy to have you all with us this issue!

Issue number 31, our first issue of the New Year, is all about Rebirth.  We’ve interpreted it quite a few ways, and hope you take the time to flip through, and enjoy all we have to offer this month.

Date Night:Raid His Closet

The recent release of InifinTIE shirt sets from Musashi Do gives us girls a fun tie and tailored shirt option that is as well crafted as  the styles made for boys.  It’s a real tie not a photosourced picture of a tie and it’s easily adjustable to fit your shape so it doesn’t slide into your boobs.

Everyone should know by now that if I can adjust a piece without destroying the intergrity of the piece – it’s easy. I’m totally challenged in that arena. This one took just a slight adj to account for my tall frame.  VOILA – I’m totally cute.

This shirt comes with a bare midriff or a more conservative full length option. I would’ve shown off my perfect tummy but I figure you guys see enough perfect tummies on the feeds. :)

The really sweet feature of the InifiTIE system is that you can change the color of your tie, say you change your pants or shoes etc and want to coordinate a different color, and it’s completely simple. Instead of adding a different color and then having to make any positioning adjustments like you might normally do – with these you just WEAR the color your want and VOILA – the color of what you have on changes, similar to some hair style color change huds. A HUD will pop up – confirming the change and then you just detach it. EASY!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! TTFN!

Where to get it?

  • Skin – Belleza – Jesse – Sunkissed #4

The Seven Deadly: Gluttony

0

Gluttony

Derived from the Latin ‘gluttire’ meaning to gulp down or to swallow, gluttony is a general over-indulgence and over-consumption to the point of waste.  It’s a lavish desire to consume more than one requires, whether it’s food, entertainment, goods, or even company.

Gluttony can take several forms– excess in quantity and excess in quality.  An excess in quantity might involve food and drink, usually leading to excess body weight and/or drunkenness. (If it involves goods, beware of bulging closets and/or inventories).   An excess in quality might include possessing food, clothing, shelter, and/or transportation far surpassing one’s real needs.  Symptoms of this form of gluttony include maxed out credit cards and empty bank accounts– consequences equally if not more frightening than the prospect of a self-imploding closet.

Date Night:Modern Gypsy Style

1

The charming Micah Kanto, creator at Modern Gypsy, sent me this dress as a Christmas present solely because Cajsa told him that it was a Gidge Dress.

Ah…..she knows me too well.

Sheer pink layers of floofy goodness in an evening gown? I’m SO sold.

The only colors of the season are NOT Green and Red now LISTEN to me – you CAN still wear other colors and I am here to prove this to you.

The sash is still red, for you purists, anyway.

I chose to pair this gorgeous Rose Fascinante dress with my completely unnecessary shoes from Digit Darkes that I adore - the Marie Antoinette Roulette Heels. They are the shoes that I constantly SEEK things to match, as I adore them. They aren’t new – but like all of Digit’s shoes -they’re flawless and stand the test of time. It’s two years later and I still wear her shoes whenever I can.

I chose the gorgeous BANKS CLOSED necklace from one of my favorite jewelers – DARK MOUSE.  It’s a fun costume piece that dresses up nicely. The skin is one of my Soda Custom skins, and if you haven’t splurged on one yet – it’s a nice Christmas present TO YOU!

Where to Get It?

  • Shape – Gidge Custom Shape by Hatchy Mills
  • Skin – SODA Custom Skin – made online here
  • Hair – TRUTH – Monica in Barley
  • Eyes – POETIC COLOR - Lavender Fields
  • Jewelry – DARK MOUSE -Banks Closed in Gold

The Seven Deadly: Pride

0

Pride

Also and often referred to as vanity, pride is an exaggerated belief in oneself.  Credited as the sin from which all others arise, it is considered the worst of the deadly seven.

Well-meaning elementary school teachers relentlessly coaxed us to, ‘believe in ourselves.’  Indeed, as they taught us, well-intentioned amour-propre can be positive and even healthy in the never-ending quest to feel good about ourselves.  In this context, it’s a pleasant, exhilarating feeling resulting from positive self-evaluation.

As a sin, pride involves an arrogant tone and satisfaction in oneself in general.  Such a  sickening, decrepit love of one’s own excellence is apparently only combated by humility– something we’re not exposed to very often in either world.  Considering one’s own defects and having a modest, humble, but reasonably positive opinion of oneself apparently helps dispel the competitiveness and constant comparison that pride plagues us with.

Pride is linked with the horse and the color violet– coincidently the color traditionally associated with those of royal status.

The Seven Deadly: Lust

0

Lust

Lust is probably the most straightforward of the seven deadly sins– it’s an unrelenting craving for something.  Although lust is traditionally associated with an intense appetite for the pleasures of the body, it’s important to note that one can lust after a number of things: a cushiony job, a large, prim-filled house, or a pair of designer shoes, for example.  Although sex, power, and image can be (and often are) used well, lust represents the result of such forces growing out of control.

It’s reported that self-control and self-mastery can prevent the pleasures we lust after from causing our downfall.  That said, I fully admit that it’s no easy feat to banish thoughts of siren-like couture handbags and beautifully constructed pixilated pleasures from the mind.  Perhaps remembering that lust is often symbolized by the cow offers a sobering reprise?

The Seven Deadly: Envy

0

Envy

Famously linked with the color green, envy is characterized by the desire for others’ traits, status, abilities, situation, or, prim couture.  Sadly, envy is usually given life by a lack of self-esteem; the envier feels somehow inferior to the envied and becomes consumed with the desire to posses what they are blessed with.

Envious souls despise the good that befalls, is possessed by, or earned by others.  They’re often driven to infectious negativity and even resort to inflicting pain and misfortune on others in their seemingly hopeless attempt to escape a life characterized by cynicism and hate.  One of the most universal and most unfortunate aspects of human nature, it has been said that envy is one of the most potent causes of unhappiness.

Common folklore warns that punishment in the afterlife for enviousness includes being drowned in freezing water.  Perhaps you’ll think twice before you get jealous of your friends’ new coat, this season?

The Seven Deadly: Sloth

0

Sloth

Defined as spiritual or emotional apathy, a sloth person is generally considered to be neglectful, lazy, inattentive, and inactive.

Sloth is essentially a wasting due to lack of use.  It can be applied to any person, place, thing, skill, or intangible idea that might at some point in time require maintenance, refinement, or support to continue to exist.  Those accused of committing this sin seem to have drifted into a sleep of complacency; they care about little and do even less.

Although this sin is historically symbolized by the goat, observing an actual sloth in the wild paints a frighteningly accurate representation of this sinner’s general temperament.  Sloths move only when necessary and even then, very slowly.  Their specialized hands and feet have long, curved claws to allow them to hang upside-down from branches with zero effort.  In fact, they usually eat, sleep, and even give birth hanging lazily from limbs.  Sloths do make their way to the ground about once a week, but only to defecate.  It’s been reported that female sloths sometimes accidentally drop their young from the treetops they inhabit but are too lazy to climb back down to retrieve them.

It’s been speculated that even though sloths are tossed into snake pits as punishment in the underworld, few do more than roll over on their side as they’re consumed by serpents.  Big surprise.

The Seven Deadly: Greed

0

Greed

Commonly referred to as avarice or covetousness, greed, like gluttony and lust, is a sin of excess; it’s a selfish desire for material wealth or gain.  Much advertising is based on this sin, playing on one’s apparent innate desire of (often excessive) acquisition.  A number of dishonorable acts are associated with greed, including disloyalty, betrayal and treason (usually for personal gain), bribery, scavenging, hoarding of materials/objects, theft, trickery, and manipulation.  (Basically everything you’ve ever seen on an episode of ‘Intervention’).

Many argue that it’s not surprise that greed seems to get the best of us all at some time or another; we live in possibly the most pampered, consumerist society in modern history.  Legend warns that punishment for greed involves banishment to hell in the afterlife where you can expect to spend your time being boiled alive in oil.  Cheer up, though– rumor has it that the oil is the finest, most luxurious boiling oil that money can buy.
