Date Night:Sascha’s Designs from Formal To Casual

1

One of the better known ballgown creators on the Grid is Sascha Frangilli of Sascha’s Designs. She creates delicious “Barbie Doll” gowns as she calls them that aren’t priced out of reach of the average avatar.  But what always strikes me about her creations are truly how luscious they are – how like a princess I feel in them.

She truly has her finger on the pulse of my inner Barbie.

One of the great things about buying gowns from Sascha is that you never get just ONE gown in the deal. She provides a huge number of options in length, poofy-goodness and style so that by purchasing one gown you have several dates-worth of beauty.
This is the gorgeous and over-the-top battleship skirt in magenta and seafoam.

I slipped off the battleship and left the swooshy flexi for a more modern less southern belle look. The details on the bodice are gorgeous.

For a sleek look I dropped all the prim skirts and just wore the column and it’s still a gorgeous look – perfect for nights where you were trying to be gorgeous but cut down on your prims attachments.

For a slightly less formal but NO less elegant look she always includes a mini option that turns your dress into a cocktail gown in a click. It’s got a latin flair around the waist – tango anyone?

To give you a peak at the sort of range you can expect from Sascha’s Designs – I thought I’d bring out THE HAMPTONS. This gorgeous look of casual wear has skirt and pants options with varied belt colors. Again – she brings you great options with one outfit! Sascha is a really thoughful designer when it comes to providing you versatility in your purchases. Additionally, she gives away a lovely group gift each month.

I’m wearing PXL Creations GRACE in Natural Tone in Flamenco – a truly elegant and gorgeous look on any avatar.

Blue

A popular hue, blue is the favorite color of companies and organizations who wish to convey their reliability and trustworthiness; they are ‘true blue’ — even if a bit cold, stiff, and probably not very exciting.  Blue indicates quality, value, durability, strength, and authority.  Dark blue is the color of official-dom; uniforms, mailboxes, and symbols of the U.S. government are navy to midnight blue.  Despite gray flannel’s iconic status as the very definition of corporate conformity, dark blue suits are the daily uniform of office workers nationwide, and blue denim is everyday wear for people of all ages and sexes.  In American academia, blue is the color of the study of philosophy– a reflection of the soothing contemplative aspects of the hue. Expressions that contain blue can have high (blue ribbon, blue chip, blue blood) or low (blue humor, singing the blues) connotations.

Green

Green is the color of money and nature– two things close to the hearts of many.  Newly a symbol of environmentalism , green has always been linked with forests, crops, and plentiful harvests, and in marketing or packaging signals things that are ‘all natural.’  Dark greens are considered outdoorsy and masculine– a favorite choice for automobiles.  Vibrant kelly green is virtually synonymous with Ireland.  In food, green indicates freshness, health, and mint flavor.  As it gets paler, green gets less appealing; on its way to yellow, green takes on sickly and unpleasant associations– slime, bile, and disease.  Because of its recessive, allegedly calming nature, a flat, grayish green– dubbed ‘institutional green’– has become the unofficial color for the hallways of public schools in poor neighborhoods, the lobbies of post offices, and underfunded municipal agencies.  Green is the common background color for highway signs, and in academia it’s the color of medical studies.  Some of the hue’s most noteworthy negative meanings include envy, jealousy, disgrace, moral degradation, and inexperience.

Date Night:Don’t Forget the Sn@tch

1

One of the most annoying people I ever met on the grid once read me the riot act about manicures. Declaring them stupid and pointless, she railed against them as a waste of money.  Personally I disagree – I think they’re like icing on the cake. Or they’re like the candy fleur adornment.

I mention this, because this annoying person also – on this same night. Took me to SN@TCH.

This idiot’s endorsement of Ivey’s business was enough to keep me away from it for a long time, which is a damned shame. Ivey is brilliant at bringing alternative culture great fashions but guess what else – she also makes some gorgeous separates that even girly girls like me want to wear.

Sn@tch is probably the only shop on the grid a Neko, Vampire, Post Apocalpytica and Fashionista could all shop together. I love that.

She sells great tops and jeans with fantastic creative touches – I love this look for a date on Winter Land.

Or the simple halters for a fun summer day – I’m pairing them with her new boyfriend jeans here.

Sn@tch is a great store for any combo of tops and bottoms and Ivey makes a great constructed collar look.

I picked up this super cute for fall Crocheted dress off her news wall. If you weren’t aware – Ivey always gives you all the colors of her creations for one price. SCORE!

Today I’m also showcasing PXL Creations GRACE skin . I’m wearing natural. This is one of the most elegant and pretty skins on the grid. Simple and not overdone, it’s aptly named – GRACE.
And the bod is rockin too!

Where to get it:
Shape – Gidge Custom Shape
Hair- Truth and Argrace (hat hair is Argrace)
Clothes and Shoes – All from Sn@tch

Yellow

Yellow is the most visible color from a distance, sometimes to its detriment; thanks to a popular notion that visibility trumps good design, yellow can seem cheap.  Yellow is a cautionary signal; it once designated quarantine, and yellow tape is still used to cordon off areas under police investigation.  Alternating black and yellow stripes indicates a hazardous area and are commonly seen around construction sites where heavy machinery is being operated.  Yellow is also frequently paired with red on roadside language. Long in use for marine safety equipment, protective or waterproof casings of bright yellow are used to indicate that a camera of other item is meant for use under rough conditions.  In most American cities, taxies are yellow.  This hue, for the most part, is considered to be a happy color, connoting the sun, welcome warmth, and ripe grains.  According to the Luscher Color Test, yellow represents ’spontaneity,’ is ‘expansive, aspiring, active, and investigatory,’ and signals ‘originality, expectancy, variability, and exhilaration.’  On the downside, yellow in the English language has a host of negative connotations.  The word yellow is synonymous with coward and white yellow journalism means biased, partisan, and inflammatory news reporting.

***Authors Note – I had some people tell me yesterday that they could not see the images on this post so I pulled it back to draft status. I reloaded the images today – if you are having trouble seeing this beautiful outfit – please let me know and I’ll tinker with it some more. Thanks – Gidge

Kabuki from Mon Amour was a happy pick up for me the other day. I had received a Designer Showcase Network gift from the shop and wandered over to check out what else they had.

I was completely impressed with the quality of the free item which had been sent out so imagine how excited I was to find other very creative and fun items at the shop.
Especially this one – KABUKI.
I’m also completely impressed with the creator – I purchased my item and ran back to the studio to shoot when BAM – I realized it was the wrong item. I was heartbroken as it was fantastic but SHEER and I am a MARRIED WOMAN PEOPLE!
So I messaged the creator who IMMEDIATELY sent me this lovely.
Now THAT is service!

I’m wearing a new skin today (new to me) Curio’s Vixen in Petal Tone – this is Merlot 2 makeup.

Somebody wake me up. I’m dreaming. This is just so…….oooooooooo.

Orange

Although many claim a strong dislike of orange, it seems to pop up everywhere.  In its defense, orange has its good points: sunsets, citrus, flowers, and fall foliage.  That said, it’s also associated with cheap plastic furniture, fast food restaurants, and other aesthetic blights.  Used for signs on highway construction and maintenance, orange indicates not danger, but inconvenience and delay.  Visibility is its key attribute: conical road markers and vests worn by road crews are a dense, deep orange.  In mush of the U.S., jailed prisoners are made to wear orange (an unintended throwback to the orange worn by Indian convicts that inspired the Buddha to wear orange robes).  Orange also has industrial, mechanical implications, signaling the dangerous parts of machinery or energized equipment.  More recently, orange seems to have gained some popularity– even as a corporate color– because of a newfound association as a refreshing and invigorating change from the norm.

Pink

A highly changeable color, pink can be warm, cool, quiet, or loud.  A decidedly feminine and sensuous color, it is often described in the terminology of idealized femininity.  It’s the traditional color for baby girls and often the color of childhood, bestowing cuteness in most any context.  Intense ‘hot pink’ signals fun and frivolity for all ages (think the 80’s).  Although pink confections are especially sweet (cotton candy and bubble gum), in most foods pink indicates a delicate flavor.

Greetings, friends!

This next series is meant to provoke some thought about how color functions in your in-world (or out-of-world) wardrobe.  I’ll provide a few outfit ideas using a particular shade and toss in a little color theory to reveal the meaning behind the hue.  I hope you find it revealing and insightful!

Red

Meant as a warning or invitation– and often both– red shamelessly draws attention to itself.  Considered a loud color, it promises excitement and is regarded as a symbol of vitality and life– but also of the exact opposite: danger and death.  For women, high-heeled red shoes, red lipstick, and red dresses are emblematic of sexiness and passion; for men, a red sports car functions in the same way.  Red is also the color of adultery, as immortalized in Nathaniel Hawthorn’s “A Scarlet Letter.”  For all its implied thrill-seeking, however, red is also the color of safety or rescue (fire engines, emergency equipment).  In food, red is used to indicate hot and spicy flavors (9).
