Ruby, I took Marly’s comment to be a colorful metaphor used to express her opinion on, YES, stagnant marketing tactics toward women.

I too am tired of fashion advertisers assuming that I have a burning desire to be a perfectly proportioned sex bomb — and that I’ll race to buy their products if they dangle that carrot in front of me. (WOO, now see, that was a bad phallic pun!)

Zimon’s questioning whether Marly was a porn aficionado was just a downright jab. That’s all I meant. If we have differing opinions, can’t we disagree without making it personal?

That aside, I don’t want to make Rhi sad anymore. Sorry Rhi – I guess we’re all just passionate about our shoes – which is why we hang out here. The fact that this post sparked discussion is a tribute to its forum.

She pretty much single handedly wrote up her own bad puns and ridiculous porn comments herself, and she thinks they were hurled at her? Maybe in the world of entertainment writing that passes for journalism these days, one can try to turn it around and say this was sent her way, but the actual words speak her own truth. You say it, you are held accountable for it.

Oh, and i find it fascinating that Stiletto Moody is being heard “all over the grid at the moment.” Now that would be worthy of some journalism.

My post was more in defense of Marly — If she wants to express an opinion about Stiletto’s ads, I think she should be able to do it without getting bad puns and ridiculous porn comments hurled at her.

I’m a journalist in RL. I approach everything from an objective viewpoint. Yes, while Stiletto’s work is lovely and should be commended, I don’t think she should be placed above occasional constructive criticism — whether it’s regarding her product or her marketing techniques.

When we reach the stage where everyone collectively gasps in horror if we dare share not-so-glowing feedback about SL’s biggest names, then we have fallen to the same sad depths of the mindless celebrity idolizing that occurs in RL. We fail as journalists, we fail as consumers and we fail as thinking, intelligent beings.

Yeah, SMG2 is a great line, but it’s not the second coming of Christ. While I do love the shoes, I’m getting tired of the crazed fawning I’m seeing all over the grid at the moment.

And yes, as I stated in my earlier comment, which possibly didn’t make it past the moderator, I looked the jagged seams on the tall boots — which do not move fluidly with my AV — and questioned whether they were worth the price.
