 I have met Kim food on occasions when I was hanging out with some Canadian friends at the SL Tim Hortons. Goth girl, quiet, sweet. A builder. Since I never go to Timmie’s anymore (probably it doesn’t even exsist any longer), I lost track of some of the people I met there. Until last night, when Kim dropped me a folder with some really lovely goth jewelry pieces (The Coeur Noir set). So totally not my day-to-day style, but so well made that I had to hop over to her newly opened shop and picked up some more things to share with you.

So without further ado, take a look at some of the detailed full prim pretties that Kim has been making

Coeur Noir is a set that is made of 4 pieces, all of which are available as separates too. This is the earring, which for me is the best piece of the set, further there is a necklace, a bracelet and an anklet, all executed with great eye for detail. I had to smile at the little label on the earring and the necklace… It really makes this set the signature set for Kim. All her jewelry is scripted for resizing, so whereas it might appear non mod… if you click the pieces you can adjust the size to your avie.

 

The reversed Gothic Cross is very intricate. The microprims have al been aligned by hand, not using a loop rez or other script to make the chain. When I talked to Kim earlier she told me she has been putting in a lot of time and effort to make her textures, and with success, there are a lot of unique details in her work. I’m always amazed to what people are capable of with the tiny prims. After almost 2 years in SL, I am still a total building retard.

 

Maybe my personal favourites are the reversed cross earrings. I admit, probably because they are less goth  in the look and feel than Kim’s other work. I really zoomed in on these for you to see the lovely textures on the gems and the meticulous build of these pendants. Usually I just like to show you stuff and then leave it up to you whether you go see for yourself or not.. but in this case, I am really so pleasantly surprised, that I can only say.. please… go take a look for yourself and do the ctrl-0 thing, because these photos just don’t do justice to the real pieces.

 

I’m not really into gothic, as you will probably have noticed by now, so I don’t really know the places where to shop for quality goth content. If you do.. please leave a comment, as Kim is looking for a new place to set up shop that fits her brand and has some decent traffic. Your tips might help her to find something good and affordable.

Forda Fairlane, the creative genius behind Haute Style & Co recently opened her new store on the Opium sim. Now featuring solely her own designs, she has added some new fun things! You can find a lucky chair in her store, and she has a variety of outfits available from it. Another addition is the gift of the month. She was kind enough to drop me some of her latest new fall designs, which I must say, are lovely! I felt so ready for apple cider and jumping into crunchy leaf piles in these outfits. Cortina is a cozy collared sweater with ribbons and feathers, a flowing hem, and luxurious cuffs that can be worn as brown or plain fabric. The form fitting tweed cuffed pants are a perfect match. Maitreya’s brown Verve pumps finish off this look.
Fairlane is a gorgeous satin top featuring a sexy V cut design, and a cute tie on the side. The brown corduroy pants and Maitreya pumps make this an outfit for most any casual occasion.
Gracie is composed of a silky, strapless, black & white top edged in white satin and tweed Capri’s nicely cuffed. I thought Maitreya’s Virtue black heels complimented this one best.

Milla is a very cute mini dress in a funky print with a milk chocolate brown, knit over-shirt. I had to go back to Maitreya’s brown Verve pumps for this one.
Kimberly is a mint colored concoction featuring a plaid bodice with 3 mini buttons on the breast and a wool skirt with a delicate tulle overlay. I thought my *I.O.* Coquette Noir Shoes: Fahbi: Silver went great with this amazing little dress.
Pasadena is an adorable knitted sweater with big cozy collar in a creamy beige, and a schoolgirl style mini skirt in a red plaid. Once again, the brown Verve pumps won me over!

Did you catch the relaunch issue of Aspire magazine? It’s a great looking magazine with plenty of summer time content, including a well done swimsuit pictorial.

I have to admit a healthy bit of cover envy with gorgeous beauty Keely Huet looking summer fun perfect. She’s a striking model, but I absolutely had to go check out The obScene – the source of her skin – just based on the photograph. I even dragged along new Aspire owner kristianne Matfield to get a closer look at them too.

At L$1000 a pop they’re not the least expensive skin in Second Life, nor are they the most expensive, but they certainly are worth the expense.

I especially liked designer Kuja Akina’s theatrical makeup options – perfect for photography and runway shows – but maybe not for day-to-day running around the grid. One thing that both kris and I liked was that the ever-popular streaky mascara makeup look had streaks under both eyes. We were both stumped trying to remember the last time we’d cried out of just one eye as so many Second Life runny mascara skins suggest.

But it’s not all over-the-top makeup glam. There are some tremendously everyday-wearable makeup collections as well. Both of us rather liked the “Bad Mojo” collection, which has four dark smokey eye makeup selections paired with four different lipstick colors, from nude to vamp to tramp – one look for each mood. It also includes a kabuki-inspired lipstick. We both felt like the palest skin tone was very very pale — too pale for our collective comfort. I trended toward the middle tone (shown above left), while kris preferred the darker (but not too dark) tanned skin tone (seen here to the left.)

By now, unless you live in a deep dark cave or never spend time with just about any female avatar in Second Life, you must know that Stiletto Moody has released a beautiful set of three new shoes – the tall boots, the retrorific patent pin-up heels, and the sex-on-a-stick d’Orsay strappy heels plus a new collection of lingerie, the first release of which is named “Lucky” (shown in the photo along with the d’Orsay heels.)

So you already all know that – but did you know that Stiletto has a whole release pipeline scheduled throughout the rest of August? And the next shoes on tap are a set of deliciously textured python striped pumps (foreground of this ad.) I am also reliably informed there’s still yet more new wonderful shoes to lust after from Stiletto. My advice: start saving your Lindens now or maybe try to hook up with an in-world sugar daddy!

One of Second Life’s best kept skin secrets, the Nora line by Sezmra Svarog is closing down. She writes on her blog:

I’m pretty frustrated at the stagnation Second Life has continued to experience over the years, under Linden Lab’s reign. Hey, I’m not saying we haven’t gotten new toys – I am saying that our old ones are still covered in mud. Since most of my SL creation is based around avatar skins, and there have been no real improvements regarding that – I’m just kind of exhausted with hacking and slashing away at it all. Vendor problems, customer service, dealing with broken tools… I just don’t feel like doing it anymore. My faith in Linden Lab has officially run dry. Sorry folks. So with that, Nora will be closing permanently.

She goes on to announce some pretty amazing news. First, all of her skins will be on sale for L$100 (fatpacks for L$300) until August 18, 2008. And even more amazing, she writes:

I will be releasing new skins as .PSDs under a attribution/share-alike license. This is similar to what Eloh Eliot has done. In doing this, I will be able to both enjoy creating, at my own pace, for Second Life no matter what Grid it’s being used on.

In addition I will release new layers that can be added onto the base skin .PSDs. Like, makeups or scars or tattoos. And all you have to do is combine them. I also want to release some tutorials on how to do it all, and how to add your own fun things to them. Approaching skins from this angle will not only remove the cost entirely from my skins, but allow you to customize them however you want.

Nora makes skins for men and women. I think her dark skin tones are especially well done. So here’s your opportunity to snatch up some of the best looking skins in Second Life for just a tenth of what they used to cost. Get ‘em while you can – and having seen a sneak preview of Nora 3.0 – we will all be grateful for the PSDs whenever those are released.

Time to flex those Photoshop muscles again, girls! I’ve got fun news from the Flickr front! Annyka Bekkers of Blowpop skins is expanding her store, and holding a contest to find store posters. Prize winners will have their photos displayed in store. Annyka is also offering cash prizes for first place, and four runners-up.

After seeing several breathtaking shots popping up in my Flickr contacts, I decided to check out Blowpop skins. On top of being very fairly priced at L$950, they are beautifully detailed. Minnu Palen is well known for her amazing skins. She has also been known lately due to some unsavory and undeserved drama. I won’t get into that, but I do want to praise her for being strong and keeping her head up high! After a brief break and some fresh air, she has reopened her store, located on Glam World. http://slurl.com/secondlife/glam%20world/100/176/23/

Upon entry, a large desk awaits you. A computer with the link to her website, http://www.glamworldsl.com/ sits there, as well as photographs of all the staff. Venturing in farther, you will find an amazing watery floor and a few tanks, which I assume are for models? Perhaps shoppers can try them out? Not sure…you should go see! You will also see an area here with eyes and eyelashes. Straight back is the treasure…her line of skins she calls ZERO. You will notice 2 sets of stairs on either side of the welcome area, which lead to a line of men’s skins by Thora Charron. There is also a cute little hair salon area, near Minnu’s line of hair. This large building also houses 2 other great shops, Maitreya and Maiiki.

At $1500L a skin and $9000L for the full pack of eight, you might feel leery. But trust me, they are WELL worth it! Each skin shade come with three eyebrow options. First choice is very light, second choice is “a”, medium shade, and third choice is “b”, dark shade. The detail work she puts into these skins is remarkable. I just love the neck and collarbone area! So natural looking. The facial features are amazing. I love the high cheekbones, gives me such a sophisticated look. A lot of skins I find seem to make me look “girlish”. The detail work is consistent throughout the skin. Simple coochie, which I like, and the hands and feet are very well done…in fact, I can wear toe nail polish with her skins! Wooot!

I chose makeup 6 with the lightest eyebrows for each picture. The eyes are *Sin Skins* Intense Ocean/Obsidian Eyes, and the eyelashes are Faded from Detour. The bikini is Little Glimpses by Savonah, worn with the Light skin shade. The headshots are as follows, picture 1, Fair, Pale, Light, and Sun Kissed. Picture 2, Sun Tan, Tan, Dark, and Umber.

Flipping through our latest issue, I came upon a very lovely jewelry ad with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen! “Bandit Jewelry” it said. I immediately found myself in a luxurious shop. Gorgeous red carpets, black walls with regal lions, and creamy pillars adorn the inside. Upstairs, you can find a nice array of necklaces, rings, earrings, watches and bracelets. The lower level features men’s jewelry and a really neat vault with gold, diamonds and money bags! (Just for looks of course!)

Each jewelry piece is intricately made with micro prims, adding great detail. The items also give off a nice glow…not so much that it is overpowering however. My favorite part of these jewels is the movement! The diamonds seem to be rotating! I just love it.
