Nora Skins: The L$100 quitting business sale

One of Second Life’s best kept skin secrets, the Nora line by Sezmra Svarog is closing down. She writes on her blog:
I’m pretty frustrated at the stagnation Second Life has continued to experience over the years, under Linden Lab’s reign. Hey, I’m not saying we haven’t gotten new toys - I am saying that our old ones are still covered in mud. Since most of my SL creation is based around avatar skins, and there have been no real improvements regarding that - I’m just kind of exhausted with hacking and slashing away at it all. Vendor problems, customer service, dealing with broken tools… I just don’t feel like doing it anymore. My faith in Linden Lab has officially run dry. Sorry folks. So with that, Nora will be closing permanently.
She goes on to announce some pretty amazing news. First, all of her skins will be on sale for L$100 (fatpacks for L$300) until August 18, 2008.
And even more amazing, she writes:
I will be releasing new skins as .PSDs under a attribution/share-alike license. This is similar to what Eloh Eliot has done. In doing this, I will be able to both enjoy creating, at my own pace, for Second Life no matter what Grid it’s being used on.In addition I will release new layers that can be added onto the base skin .PSDs. Like, makeups or scars or tattoos. And all you have to do is combine them. I also want to release some tutorials on how to do it all, and how to add your own fun things to them. Approaching skins from this angle will not only remove the cost entirely from my skins, but allow you to customize them however you want.
Nora makes skins for men and women. I think her dark skin tones are especially well done. So here’s your opportunity to snatch up some of the best looking skins in Second Life for just a tenth of what they used to cost. Get ‘em while you can - and having seen a sneak preview of Nora 3.0 - we will all be grateful for the PSDs whenever those are released.
Shop Nora at Glenn (148, 36, 27).

Way to kill the skins market! I don’t like SL anymore…..so i’ll just flood the already saturated sector with my free PSD’s. Eloh Elliot didn’t do the skins sector any favours either!
Posted by: Greenback on August 14th, 2008 at 10:06 amDon’t know why you people ever bothered in the first place. If you would have learnt to market properly and you have made a decent amount income from it.
Hey! I resemble that comment!
Posted by: Eloh Eliot on August 15th, 2008 at 9:23 pmThanks Greenback, for your unintentional reassurance. I feel a whole lot better about my decision. I seriously cannot see why anyone could think negatively of someone offering content for free use.
Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t.
“The Skins Market” has never been my concern. I never made skins to make Lindens; it was just a nice side effect. I never said I didn’t like SL anymore. I log in almost every day to enjoy myself. What I *don’t* like is the attitude of many skin businesses. What I *don’t* like is busting my ass on a virtual business that is just too much trouble these days.
But you go ahead and spit on my contributions - all the better.
Posted by: Sezmra Svarog on August 29th, 2008 at 4:51 pmhey greenback, it’s people like you who care more about profit than learning and being a part of a community that really make sl suck.
as a novice to skin creation, eloh’s skins have helped me learn how to create skins… if you look online you can find clothing tutorials, and some build tutorials but no one teaches skin making techniques! and this is because of greedy people like greenbacks who don’t want anyone to know how to make skins so they can rake in all the cash. people like eloh and sezmra are awesome for giving people the chance to learn!
