A whole new way to enjoy Second Style Magazine

By Celebrity Trollop | February 23, 2008

Jaydei Benmergui told me about a brand new PDF publishing service called Issuu which converts PDF documents into embeddable flash documents. What’s so awesome about Issuu? You can now easily embed pages from Second Style in your own posts (maybe you’re an advertiser and would like to show off your ad, or maybe we featured some of your clothing in one of our photoshoots), but what I like the best is that you don’t have to download the entire 10MB magazine to start enjoying it. Right now issue #16 (the current issue) along with issues #15 and #13 are uploaded. Over the next several weeks I’ll be adding all of our backissues to the collection.

Jaime Wheeler of SexySecond Magazine also uploaded issue #2 for your browsing pleasure. You can find it here. There’s tons more fashion content on issuu, too.

Check it out, I love browsing our magazine and everything else and I think you will too.

  3. Interesting, though if a blogger/designer/advertiser just wants to “quote” a pdf it’s probably easier to use imagemagick’s convert a la convert ‘foo.pdf[pagenumber] foo.jpg Also you’re still “downloading” the content, just not “saving”.

http://www.swftools.org/ also has a downloadable (and open source) tool to convert pdf2swf.

    pdf2swf foo.pdf foo.swf

now that’s not browseable but they have a simple pager wrapper that you can download:

    http://www.quiss.org/swftools/SimpleViewer.swf

    swfcombine -o browseable.swf SimpleViewer.swf viewport=foo.swf

In fact, they may be using those tools behind the scenes with their own pager wrapper.

  5. Love the new format. It’s much easier to read, and the zoom feature is much smoother. Nice improvement. Thanks!

  7. Hi, I’ve been trying to use the SimpleViewer.swf, but everytime I run the following code:
    swfcombine -o browseable.swf SimpleViewer.swf viewport=foo.swf
    I get this error:
WARNING Didn’t find anything named viewport in file. No substitution will occur.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
