Technology and fashion?
By Celebrity Trollop | December 4, 2007
Are they more like peanut butter and chocolate, or water and oil? There was a panel about technology and fashion in Boston today to discuss the matter and included Linden Lab, MIT, Dolce & Gabbana and My Virtual Model. No Second Style staff members were present, but I was delighted to find that we made a cameo appearance in Linden Lab’s slide deck, and also in the C-NET blog story about the conference.
It was sponsored by Moda e Technologia, an Italian non-profit group reaching out to fashion houses in Italy and around the world to discuss how technology impacts fashion. They have a presence in Second Life, too — a sim named ITLAND, and a website where you can learn a bit more about the organization. (There are both Italian and English versions of content, so don’t fret if you don’t speak Italian.)
I think the future of 3D web technologies is really bright for fashion in particular, because shopping for proper fit and drape is so hard to do remotely. Using technologies like My Virtual Model, you can get a better sense how a particular cut of denim might indeed make your ass look fat no matter what your well-trained significant other might say.

Letter to the editor:
Great Article! I work at My Virtual Model (www.mvm.com), and I wanted to thank you for covering us in your most recent blog post. I was wondering if you would interested in doing a more thorough coverage of us (although I am aware that you are more dedicated to specifically second life fashion). If so, my email is listed above, and I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Daniel Stern
(I accidentally posted this two articles above. Sorry for the redundancy.)
