Je me souviens trop bien

It is a very sad day for the Second Life fashion community. You may have seen this post on the Last Call blog, which I emphatically confirm is not some kind of publicity stunt or marketing ploy.

Toward the end of the post, we are asked to remember not what was lost, but what was given to us by the creative team at Last Call by Dazzle. Almost no one I’ve encountered in Second Life had the same infectious love for RL fashion, almost no one in Second Life pushed the platform as far, or as hard, or in innovative creative ways be it texture artistry or prim work. And there is hardly a content creator in Second Life who has has such a broad impact on the way that female avatars dress and represent themselves in world or even out-of-world in photographs, machinima and more.

From the most elegant of ball gowns to the classy casual looks to the fun, care-free resort line, the Dazzle brand has been for the last two years in Second Life a high bar by which other fashion content was judged for quality, artistry and a very distinctive aesthetic style.

I remember the first time I happened to chat with Ginny in April of 2006. In those days, Dazzle was a smaller affair - a business which mostly specialized in formal and wedding gowns — how far the brand has come since those days. It was easier to take time and goof off, play silly in-world games, laugh about eurotrash antics in spendy designer boutiques in Paris and show one another things that we admired in real-life and in Second Life clothing.

Although I only knew Ginny’s typist in world, I offer my sincerest sympathy to the family and other loved ones involved. I feel grateful to have known and been profoundly touched by the creative forces behind Last Call. God bless your family in this very sad time.

  2. i read the post on the dazzle blog, and unless i missed something posted somewhere else (officially) which is possible, i can’t find where it says ginny died in the dazzle post.

i’ve heard in world it was not ginny but lyra who i guess was known to be her RL partner and SL collaborator?

it says, “the one not writing this post” but ginny is the one it says wrote the post. (at the bottom) i am very confused and if you (celebrity) or anyone can point me to something i missed, i would greatly appreciate it. (something “official”)

i’ve read the post over and over and am can’t understand who died, i want to offer condolences, and have seen the feed with people offering them to for ginny, and referencing the post, but when i read it, i get confused.

in any case this seems to be a very sad time and i’m in shock.

any direction would be much appreciated, also as to where we can send our sympathy, (if the family is setting up such a place like a charity or something)

    thanks very much.

    warmly,

  3. I got the impression more than one person is behind the Ginny av.
Anyway, my condolences, I imagine this person was quite young and it wasn’t his time at all.

  4. I read this news while creating new clothes tonight and I stopped all immediately.
I feel so hurt about that !
Of course … “The show must go on ”
I began to create clothes because I was so impress by LC and Dazzle works. It was, it is and it will be my essential fashion reference !
Many thanks to show me the way with your amazing talent.

Sincères condoléances et sympathies à la famille.

  5. Callie, more than one person was the designer behind Last Call. The typist who operated Ginny’s account died. The person who is now typing on the Last Call blog is his RL partner, who was the other Last Call designer behind the scenes.

  6. Thank you for clearing that up Phoenix, like Callie I found the post a little confusing.

My sympathies go to Ginny’s family, friends and acquaintances.

  12. I am so shocked! This is horrible. I didn’t know Ginny but from the shockwaves of sadness and grief sent throughout SL I can tell that he will be missed greatly. I am also sad because I never got a chance to know such a bright and talented person. This just sucks.

  13. This is sad news. I have always admired Ginny’s work and she is the creator of some of my favorite dresses in SL.

A small technical remark: I had some problems finding the posting on the last call blog, because there is an error in the link at the start of this article: it says “http://” twice…

  14. My deep felt condolences to all family & friends. SL will be less vivid without you.

  21. My condolences to the friends and family of the person behind Ginny. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Yet another affirmation that there are human beings behind every pixelated face. And even if they are never known in RL, they can still have an impact in both lives.

  22. I don’t care how many people were behind the ‘brand’. They brought some great clothes to SL consistently and raised the bar for everyone.

My sympathies go out to those who have lost someone close to them, and to SL in general for the loss of a great, great talent.

  23. My most sincere condolences to Ginny’s family and friends. It’s very sad that this has happened. I personally never had the pleasure of meeting him but I’m sure that his presence in sl and rl will be deeply missed.

  24. This is a tragic story and those who’d suspect anything but the truth here should be ashamed. They should also worry that karma is watching and waiting.
Last Call is one of those stores that my friends and I use to lure each other into shopping. No one can refuse a trip there..even if you have almost every outfit they offer. You go, because its amazing.
I’m so saddened by the news. My prayers are with the family and friends…and might we all take a moment and be greatful for the ones we have with us right now. Let us not take for granted one moment we share with one another.
We call this a game, but does any other ‘game’ on the planet affects our real lives the way SL does? I’ve never shed tears over a ‘game’ before. I shed them now.

  25. What terrible news! Ginny’s talent with textures and design has long been an inspiration to me and I will miss that creative energy and vibrant spirit.

My condolences to his friends and family in this time of mourning, may you continue to celebrate his life with your loving memories.

    adieu mon ami,
