Your patience will be rewarded

armidi_004.jpgarmidi_001.jpgNo one is probably more excited to see the Armidi sim finally open than developer trio Liam Oliver, Nicole David, and Lola Marquez. After a tantalizing tease of things to come at Hair Fair 2007 with the beautifully executed Bombshell hairstyle, most of the grid’s fashion watchers were left with a desire for much more from Armidi. A couple of disappointing fitful start and stop cycles later, the Armidi island was opened to a group of Second Life journalists and the entire Armidi Update group. Even the opening was delayed by about 30 minutes — it was scheduled to kick off at 2:30, but most made it in around 3:00 pm SLT this afternoon.

To answer your most immediate question: yes there are a lot of amazing hairstyles as you can see in the photo to the left. (There are much more photos of the sim and other clothing displays after the cut.) Although the hair was being packaged into vendors (and thus not immediately available during today’s sneak peek), it’s clear that all of the hair will be ready by the sim’s official public opening on Saturday, October 6th. The other thing that’s clear wandering around is that we’re only seeing a fraction of what Armidi plans to do with these new stores and brands. Aside from hair in Armidi Body, for example, there was a display area (unpopulated with vendors as of yet) for women and men’s skins.

The build itself is a lush European looking tropical pedestrian zone, with the Elephant Outfitter store appearing especially colonial in design. Each “sub-brand” of Armidi has its own unique store build and aesthetic presentation style. The luxe upscale designer label Gisaci, for example, features ornate chandeliers, cream colored walls and very stylish furniture. The more rocker-inspired Armidi Limited has bare concrete walls in some parts of its building and a more industrial interior style.

armidi_018.jpgarmidi_023.jpgAnd of course, grid favorite casual brand Elephant Outfitters is back better than ever with plenty of new and super cute casuals to buy if you get tired to gawking at the pretty pretties inside of the other stores. The outfits I’m showing you here are just a taste — my absolute favorite styles — of the total sum of what’s new on the sim.

On the left above is one of the new EO casuals — the cotton fringe cami in orange. The detail level on this top is really remarkable. Look at the shadowing and careful attention to the strings on the top. It’s nice to know that the quality level of EO has only improved over the long wait for new releases. But the detail level in almost every piece of clothing I saw was simply top notch, certainly ranking among some of the best clothing available in Second Life. The gown on the right, Midnight in Scarlet with it’s delicate mesh skirting and the sequin detail across the entire garment is one of those designs that you can just keep zooming closer and closer marveling at all of the little touches that were not neglected.

armidi_012.jpgarmidi_021.jpgAs further evidence of the fine detail work, I’d like to show you the Lace boyshort/bra set from Armidi Intimizzio (shown in pink, but available in several other colors.) There’s the fabric texture itself which is beautiful enough, but this set goes a little further, with beautiful scalloping over both pieces in this set — which comes on both the shirt/pants and underwear layers. Finally, I’d like to show you another dress from the Gisaci label. The same scalloping is evident across the bodice top, with lovely shading and highlighting along the pleating and the empire waisted belt. And although this cream color doesn’t show it as well as some of the others — look carefully at the hem line of the dress and you will see a beautiful pattern emerge as surely as the pattern of Armidi’s on-again, off-again opening comes to it’s final and long-anticipated resolution.

Armidi island opens on October 6th. If you’re a member of the Armidi Update Group, you can access the island now. All skins by Tete a Pied; hair by Tickled Pink.
