Update: Sand Shack Surf Company Saved

By Celebrity Trollop | August 23, 2007

Save_Surf_Co._Sale_Fundraiser_Banner.jpgUpdate: Emma Gilmour sent me a notecard today with a message to everyone who has helped her raise the money to fix her laptop. I can’t really imitate Emma’s inimitable style, so here’s what she wrote verbatim:

Hello everyone! The fundraiser is over and the goal was met!!!!!! Thank you so so so much for all of your support and encouragement!! I will have a working puter back in no time!! :DDDDD I’m so humbled by all the people that came out of nowheres to help me out on this… gah… I really can’t even explain. But I hope to see all of you around again - Also, I will be keeping all of the upstairs items on sale regardless of the fundraiser being over.. and soon will be having a clearance sale to make room for the fall goodies :DDDD

One last THANK YOU <3 and CHEERS for being able to return my BF's laptop to him!!! HOORAYY :DDDDD

I’m glad Emma’s laptop is on the mend.

Milkshakes and laptops do not mix well at all. Just ask Emma Gilmour who discovered this nasty fact when her strawberry milkshake ended up coating her four month old laptop. The repair is going to cost USD $1300, and to help cover the costs, Emma is having a huge sale at her location in artilleri 90, 179, 24 (SLURL) — there are also some tip jars scattered around the store too, if you’d like to contribute above and beyond any purchase you decide to make. (Every little bit helps, even L$10.)

You can read the whole story of woe right here on Emma’s blog, and check out some of the cool new stuff that she’s put out for sale — including my favorite of the bunch the wooden heart earrings for L$75.

  4. I love what Emma creates. Her disaster makes for a great excuse to buy more clothes from there. ;-)

  5. I went and spent a bundle (love the fundraiser t-shirt with the laptop and milkshake) but didn’t see the wooden heart earrings! Hmm….

  6. So Emma screws up her own laptop due to her own stupidity, and we are supposed to pay for it? How low can she go? This is pathetic.

  7. Not so low that she’s afraid to put her name with her words.

Having spilled soda by accident on my own laptop, I’m sympathetic. Plus, it was an excuse to get shiny new stuff.

  8. If you don’t want to help, then don’t.

It isn’t like I have some kind of mesmeric powerz to make you spend your Lindens on things you don’t like or want to get.

  9. Oh, trust me, I won’t. I just think it’s kinda pathetic to ask others to help pay for your own idiocy.

  10. I really hate these cowardly commenters. Just an opinion.

  11. Names on a signature blog mean nothing, Tenshi. See? You’re posting under a ‘character’ name. Isn’t that the same thing as anon? You want to not be cowardly? Post your real name.

  12. I love the clothes at Artilleri - and now I have two reasons to go spend a bundle. I can update my wardrobe and piss off the troll “Um, wait….”

    Can life get any better?!

  13. Wow that’s harsh

  14. So what? It’s not like her life is endangered.

She has a damaged laptop, she has a SL business. There’s a sale and maybe that’ll help with the repair costs.

    Nothing wrong with that.

Bottom line, there’s a sale. Like it or leave it :)

  15. Ohh yes, Kattya. That will show me. You spend your money. Got me where it hurts.

I swear, some of you people are just sheep.

Posted by: Um, wait... on August 21st, 2007 at 8:49 am
  16. Not such a sheep as you, apparently, Umm. Is your life so unsatisfactory that you have nothing better to do than hang out at a fashion site making snarky comments about a legitimate effort to help another person? Wow - that’s just sad.

Have a cookie and a hug - I think you need it!

  17. No, I just think anyone could make up a story like this and then weep to the masses and bloggers and then make some extra $$ on the fly. Smooth marketing, and extra money.

It’s just pathetic that we want to help someone who dumped her own milkshake on her own laptop…when you could give your money to things that *really* need it.

Snarky? No, but keep being a sheep. baa.

Posted by: Um, wait... on August 21st, 2007 at 12:44 pm
  18. As someone who has also dumped liquidy goodness all over a laptop before, I was happy to help. Plus I had never heard of her store before & she makes really cute stuff.

Hope the fundraising is going well :)

  19. I once poured a gallon of sugar on my laptop.

    LOL.

  20. Bitter much???

Anywho…I love my purchases and ty for the ty gifts Emma, that was a lovely gesture :)) I hope you get all that cash you need soon, good luck :))

  21. My “dear” Um, wait… I’ll tell you that I won’t buy stuff at the sale to help someone with “her stupid mistake”.

I don’t care if she made a mistake, whatever. There is a sale, if I like the stuff I’ll buy, if I don’t, I won’t.

She’s not asking for charity. You don’t have to take some L$ out of your wallet and throw them at her.

From a cynic point of view, we got a chance to buy stuff for a cheap price.

  22. Um, wait… You are an idiot. This happens all of the time in RL. Haven’t you ever heard of a fire sale? Get off of your high horse. Better yet, why don’t you put us all out of misery and go walk off of a cliff. I am sure the world will be a lot better place with one less A hole.

  23. Whoa, Candi! Let’s keep the personal attacks out of here, if we can.

I’m going to close the comments on this post.

I appreciate your opinions even if you think asking for help is pathetic. I can’t say I agree with that opinion, but thanks for sharing it nonetheless.
