I’ve been getting a lot of questions about submitting items for review — should you do it, how to do it. I decided I’d try to collect together the things I’d appreciate in a review package in a FAQ.
Q. Is it ok to send you review items?
A: Yes, absolutely. It’s always fine to send things for me to look at. It’s not a bother. It’s not an imposition.
Q. If I send you things, will they get a review?
A. I can’t promise anything except that I will look at them. The volume of things to look at has been increasing quite a bit lately and sometimes I do not get to post new outfits as quickly as I would like. If you don’t see a post in a week or so, please ask me about it. If I decide not to post something, I will be happy to tell you why in a constructive way. Sometimes I just don’t care for something — nothing personal — it’s just not exciting to me. That’s fashion — we all have different tastes and ideas about releases worth photographing and posting.
Please remember that there are three other writers for this blog: Grazia Horwitz, Jaydei Benmergui, and Justine Babii. Most of the items I get are no transfer which is fine, except I can’t possibly pass those things to one of my colleagues for her opinion and possible coverage if I’m really overloaded.
Q. What should I send you?
A. Your favorite items. One or two colors of a set is fine, although if you want to send every color, that’s ok, too. Sometimes that’s convenient because frequently things in my inventory end up in a Second Style magazine photoshoot. (I need a pair of dark purple pumps! I need a skirt with a black and green texture! Sunglasses would look cool in this photo and this outfit, etc.)
Q. What’s the best way to package things?
A. Folders. Boxes are ok, sometimes, as long as there aren’t 40 of them in a folder to unpack. To quote my stylish colleagues at Linden Lifestyles (a lot of) boxes make baby Jesus cry. I probably won’t unpack more then 3 boxes because it just gets too annoying to find the items once they’re unpacked.
Please name the folder you pass something like “Month-Year – Store Name – Review” in this top level folder you can put your outfits or other items. A notecard in this folder describing your outfit(s), pricing and an ad texture for each outfit would be deeply appreciated.
Again, if you send items which are transferable I’ll have an easier time passing them to my colleagues or returning them if you like.
