Additional Tattoo Layers

By Grazia Horwitz | July 4, 2007

Scrolling through some designer blogs over my coffee break,  a message on Alaska Metropolitan’s blog caught my attention. Apparently there is an entry in the JIRA  issue tracker about creating extra avatar layers to make tatoos and other skin adornments less interfere with clothing layers.

This is what she writes:

Thanks to Diricial Dagger for recreating this proposal. The switch to JIRA erased the old one (which had a LOT of votes) for the same feature.

Basically, we propose having a second layer for skin “tattoos”, the first (existing) one being for body texture (ie. skins) and the second layer sitting above for tattoos and makeup. This would allow for greater customization of skins. It seems the current system was built with the assumption in place that people would use the tattoo layer for tattoos, and create skins using the in-game sliders. This assumption is about 3 years out of date.

Vote for more options at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1449.

  1. Thanks for passing on this proposal, I just voted on it myself. As designers of skins and clothing, CJ and I both would love offer our customers more options. I urge all your readers to vote on this proposal.

  2. Having a tattoo layer would mean I get to wear underpants again!

  3. Oooh!
An additional layer for makeup’s so you can switch them as easily as changing a shirt - and still you can stay yourself in your custom skin: Fashion dreams would come true for me!
I voted and tell everybody to do so - thanks a lot for covering this wonderful proposal on your blog.

  4. This would be awesome :) Tattoos are really another type of skin…they should make it a whole layer just for them :)
