What’s new at Miriel?

0

Snapshot_007.jpgSnapshot_008.jpgMiriel Enfield has been very active in June, and I was really enchanted by this hand drawn hand detailed gown by Miriel called Elaine. It’s a medieval inspired design, with the scarves attached at the upper arms and the full gown. What I really enjoyed about Elaine, though was the incredible attention to the scrollwork details which you can really get a good look at in the photo to the right. (That photo also features “Blossom” jewelry by Miriel and Siyu Sien’s amazing sculptie-prim rose hair adornment. You really have to see it to believe it.)

miriel_eyes.jpgBut wait — there’s more. Miriel has been my favorite eye texture creator in Second Life for a long time — must be 8 months now, which in Second Life time equates to about 8 years, I think. Here’s her latest new textures called Spectrum. I’ve been wearing Carribean a lot lately and I just love how the colors mix and blend in this collection of eyes. I guess Miriel’s gotten a lot of customer feedback, because she also re-released some of her “vivid” color collection in the larger, more standard iris size. If you love Miriel’s eye textures but you wanted them to be a bit larger, your wish has been granted.

beatrice_promo6.jpgFinally, Miriel is running a really fun promotion on her parcel in Nouveau all next week, starting Monday July 2. She will be hiding 10 pairs of her new jewelry design “Beatrice” in exclusive never-to-be-released gemstone colors and metal combinations. For the best chance of grabbing one of these fantastic limited editions, you’ll want to join Miriel’s update group called “Miriel’s Latest.” Full details and contest rules can be found at this post on Miriel’s blog.

Miriel is located at Nouveau 114, 201.

What’s In Marzipan’s Closet? A Fashion Show!

2

mc623.jpg

Could this weekend rock a little more? I think not!

Second Life turns 4 today and several great fashion shows loom on the horizon. I’m worn to a frazzle just thinking about all the fun!

As you’re making your plans, be sure to add this to your events to hit list; a fashion show by Atlantis Modeling and Marzipan Maladay called “What’s in Marzipan’s Closet.” I saw some of Marzipan’s outfits at the Betria Summer Romance Show last weekend and loved the mix of snappy business suits, cocktail dresses and gowns.

The show kicks off at 4:00pm SLT on Sunday at the Organ Pavillion at Diegoland sim.

Jeans, Boots and One-piece Suits!

monogramboots.jpg

I was hopping around the grid yesterday thinking about putting together a sampling of some of my favorite boots, when it occurred to me that I hadn’t yet been out to see calliefornia and Dulce Dal Mare, the new neighboring sims by Callie Cline and Kiana Dulce. I landed at calliefornia and didn’t get much further because right there by the landing spot was an incredible pair of boots. Called “monogram boots,” and designed by Callie and Livie Galileo, these boots are just enough to scream for attention but not so much that the rest of your outfit is ignored. The prim upper comes in two sizes and is adorned with tasteful silver buckles, chains and a fun pair of tassels. To wear with jeans, simply detach the uppers and you’re ready to take on the world.

In the picture, I’m wearing Callie’s “Thrashed” jeans, which are just a few steps beyond the boots display and which go with the boots like peanut butter goes with jelly. (I’m also wearing the top and gloves from the Tuesday outfit from Tuli, which, with its skirt, is the perfect outfit to go with these boots!). Callie’s monogram boots go for L$ 599 and include a fun boa that was made especially to go with them. The thrashed jeans are just L$ 150 and include a top.

sttropez.jpg

Right next to the boots and jeans, Callie has her new St. Tropez Signature One-Piece swimsuits (L$ 325). It being summer in my part of the world, my radar is set to go off for cute beachwear, and this definitely qualifies. The suits come in a cream color with a choice of six accent colors, (café, grape, teal, lime, pink and red) as well as a matching straw sun hat. I’m not normally a fan of SL hats, but this one is fun, fits well, and the color coordination of the hatband and flexi streaming ribbon with the colors of the suits may have me changing that opinion.

So that’s my tale and explains why I’m dangerous to travel with. I barely made it through the door at calliefornia before I found three great items. Next time, I’ll steel myself to hold out long enough to see the other stores there, as well as walk next door to Kiana’s sim too!

Maitreya

4

Early this week Celeb asked me if I would be able to do a review on some of Onyx Leshelle’s goodies from Maitreya. I’ll be honest to admit that I accepted reluctantly as I did see some work of Ony’x on others before and was not that much impressed with it. All the better was the surprise when Onyx dropped like a ton of awesome good things on me. She’s not only making clothes, but shoes and hair as well, and the poses I used in this post are also available in her shop and made by Beauvoir Roussel.

maitreya_col_1.jpgSince SL hates me taking pictures in world at the moment, I just picked a few of the items to put together for showing to you. The jeans is so much fun, it has all cute details like the sewn on pockets, the leather strap at the button and the skinny version comes with zippers on the calves (obviously no stretch fabric). There’s is also a no prim version with straight legs and the one with prim cuffs that I wear in the photo. The cut off hotpants are a classic in my SL wardrobe. I chose to wear the non belted one, but it comes also with a cute leather and red polkadotted  belt. Did not know which to to wear with it though. The tops were the most wonderful surprise to me. Whereas in earlier things I saw the front and back not perfectly matched and some symmetry issues, these are just great. Lovely textures, great execution. My faves are the wrapped tops that I wear with the hotpants. They have a cute prim brooch that comes with it in a couple of sizes and gemstones. The hair, although not my personal taste, has the greatest find in a long time, a face illumination prim attached to it, to help you look your best in crappy SL light, leaving your chin free for other attachments, and the shoes.. oh dear, they are yummy. Those sandals, they make me want to go shopping in RL to find a pair just like these.

A special compliment for the great poses. Besides the modeling poses which I think are really good and original, there are also runway poses that have multiple animations and a smooth shift from one to another. I dropped some in my AO the other day and just love to see how they animate my avie.

This is an easy post on credits, as almost everything is from Maitreya. Credits go to the skin, which is Entice Almond by Nora, and the necklace which is the new Dreamweaver from Earthtones Boutique.

Want to Win The New Tête à Pied Skins?

0

bronzead.1.jpgJuinRose_1.jpgNaturelle4Pack_2.jpg2x2question_280_1.jpg

Last night Roslin from Tête à Pied send out a group notice about a completely new range of skins that is in the pipeline. It’s been a while since they released their current skinline which was a huge improvement of the first skins they ever made, but after that, except for more delicious make ups, no new skins have been released but for the sweet Au Naturelle skins. I saw an early picture of the new skin in development and indeed it is quite different from the current line. There is some very subtle photosourcing worked into this skin, but it’s definately not photoreal skin. It has the trusted buttery smoothness that we know and love in TaP skins. But the mouth in the version that I saw is spectaculary different from the current one, and the eyes…. or rather the eyelids… I know it’s an early version that I saw, and there will probably be tons of changes and improvements before it is release worthy, but omg… Roslin, CJ, please hurry!

I could write more about this skin that is in development, but what this post is really about, is the request that Roslin has for the fashionable people of SL. The Tête à Pied creators would love to have your feed back on their skins, and even your wishes for the new skin line. People who submit their shape, wich will be used for testing purposes only, will enter a drawing and have a chance on winning the entire new skinline before the actual release. For the procedure and the questions, check Roslin’s blog.

Grand Opening: The Body Shop at Nuclear Boutique

0

realskin.jpgOn Friday from 10am-5pm SLT there’s a party going at Nuclear Boutique’s giant place at Archipelago Wild. The party will serve to kick off the grand opening of Nuclear Boutique and RealSKIN’s joint venture, The Body Shop at Nuclear Boutique. Featuring a scavenger hunt for goodies from both stores, the chance to enter drawings for skins and prim eyelash sets, and the opportunity to see RealSKIN’s newest skins as well as their first skin for men, this is one party I plan on hitting for sure.

If you haven’t seen the gorgeous Nuclear Boutique sim, do yourself a favor and go, (especially sometime between 10-5, as you can enter for a chance at drawings any time in there, all the prizes are drawn at five and you need not be present to win!) Nuclear Boutique designer Arikinui Adria has made a fun island retreat for guests to explore, and now with the addition of skins by RealSKIN designer Stephen Lightworker, residents can get great shapes, skins, clothes, shoes and hair all in one place!

Lots of fun events this weekend!

1

silentsparrow_show.jpgOne of my favorite Second Life designers, hyasynth Tiramisu just opened a huge, beautiful new sim — and she also created a load of brand new delicious fashion goodies to stock her store. (Although, thankfully there is plenty of room for more!) Aspire is hosting this production to showcase all of hyasynth’s new designs. The aesthetic of silentsparrow is a little bit Victorian, a little bit gothic and sometimes a little bit quirky, but it’s all so gorgeously put together. If you enjoy Victorian with a modern twist to it, this is definitely a show you will want to see. Starts at 4pm SLT in Aspire.

aspire_show.jpgLike music? I know you love clothes or you wouldn’t be visiting. This is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup of fashionable fashion shows: you got your live music in my fashion show! Come and enjoy live music performed by some of Second Life’s best musicians and a fashion show featuring some of Second Life’s hottest designers. The event kicks off this Sunday, June 24 at 11am SLT in the Aspire sim.

Also — don’t forget that SL4B — the Second Life 4th Birthday party will be kicking off this weekend, July 23rd at noon SLT. (Sim name: SL4B) There will be thousands of historical artifacts, displays from tons of residents covering prim art to photographic works, live music, machinima — so much to see and do. You can find out a little more about SL4B by reading this press release.

mo_island.jpgAlso — the designers at MO Island are organizing a fashion show to be held on July 2 at 5pm SLT in the MO Island sim. MO Island is built out kind of like a pirate’s cove with lots of shanty stores — there’s even a pirate ship anchored just off shore. I’m not 100% certain, but I think the show is going to be on the deck of the pirate ship and the audience is going to be seated in little dinghies sprinkled around the harbor. A lot of up and coming design talent have stores at MO Island — so if you like checking out the next new wave of designers, this would be a show worth putting on your calendar.]

And, you can always see our current calendar of fashion events by following the Second Style Fashion Event calendar on our right sidebar. If you have an event to put on the calendar, drop me a notecard and texture with the details. Thanks!

Reader Style

1

This is a cute casual outfit put together by Baby Barzane, but what I really enjoyed about this photo was the location. This carousel looks really almost a bit haunted — look at the eyes of the horse and the way the colors run together. Since snapzilla saves the location of your photos, if you click through to the photo’s page, you can teleport to the location of the carousel and see it for yourself!

It was hard to pick a photo to post — there were also some really cute outfits and backdrops by Ana Lutetia and Indigo Li. Thanks to everyone for submitting your fashion styles and your location choices to share with the rest of us. We’ll pick another Reader Style photo to highlight in a couple weeks.

Reader Style is your opportunity to share your favorite locations and outfits with other readers. Here’s how to submit your Reader Style look:

  • Put on a fabulous outfit (this is the best part!)
  • Take a snapshot of yourself either against a white background or somewhere cool in Second Life
  • Send the snapshot with outfit notes (like who made the top, who made the skirt, who made your shoes, etc) to rs@slpics.com.

We pick a photo from the photo stream to highlight every couple of weeks, but you can see all of the pictures whenever you want by clicking on the Reader Style sidebar.

Noob No More: The Prize Winners

7

It’s been a while since Sachi Vixen initiated the Newbie Make Over contest. It was a lot of fun going through the submissions. The winners have had their prizes by now, and it’s my turn to show you the 3 ladies who are noob no more.

alberta_loon.jpgAlberta Loon is the 3rd prize winner. She went home with a new skin, hair and clothes from Adam and Eve from the Ophelia avatar pack, as well as a L$ 250 voucher from Oh! What A Neat Boutique, and a L$ 250 voucher from Laynie Wear. This is why she felt she needed the make over:

OK desperate doesn’t begin to describe the state I’m in. Only a few days old and completely clueless. My fashion sense consists of finding stuff that halfway matches off a rack at the Goodwill store. Handbag? LL Bean standard issue. Shoes? Basic Boring Birkies. This Loon needs to laugh and do something as crazy as a…. Please turn my plight into a flight! Once I figure it out I can probably send you chocolate (Dove of course).

pug_whitfield.jpgRunner up is Pug Whitfield. She also received a new look from Adam & Eve, and a L$ 250 voucher from Oh! What A Neat Boutique, and a L$ 500 voucher from Laynie Wear. Pug’s desperate call:

Why do I want a makeover? Sachi, look at me! I’m wearing freebie men’s hair, for goodness’ sake. Here I am camping, trying to save enough money for decent jeans, hair, and glasses. I did manage to earn enough for a nice Bossa Nova blouse. And those are freebie sweet L&E sandals. (I’m knitting a sweater for fall. What else is a good girl to do while camping for shopping money?)

lucee_lane.jpgThe winner of this contest though, is Lucee Lane, who after she was put into Sachi’s hand is definitely noob no more. She received a full make over, including skin, hair, shape, lashes, lingerie, casual clothes and formal attire. Next to that, Fallingwater Cellardoor from Shiny Things has tossed in some shoes to match the new look, and Lucee received 1000L$ vouchers for Laynie Wear, Oh What A Neat Boutique and Ink Slingers. This plea is what convinced the judges:

Is there an electronic equivalent to the first life expression of soccer mom? It would certainly be a bedraggled librarian whose time spent learning new technologies is more time consuming than ever and now includes spiffing up their virtual image in Second Life. I twitter, I flickr, I blog, I IM, and I still answer the good ole phone. Please help this non-frumpy but hip librarian find some fashion style while juggling all the technical do-dads being flung at me. In my first life, I am short and non-modelesque yet; I adore the fashion of Sex and the City and would welcome a classic look of Charlotte or the eclectic look of Carrie as a way to express my true inner self. Please help this technology consumed, information waitress get her groove on. (and shave her legs!)

Ladies, you all look lovely, enjoy!
