Second Style mentioned in Financial Times

2

The stylish ladies behind LindenLifestyles.com — especially Sabrina Doolittle — play a big role in this article about Second Life style in Financial Times, one of the leading business newspapers in the world. But there’s also a mention of Second Style and myself as well.

You can read more about the effort Sabrina put into doing a makeover for the reporter in her post here. Pretty exciting to see Second Life style covered in a newspaper I admire as much as FT.

Updated: Second Style’s Style Calendar

9

cogHeader.jpgUpdate: Jaydei discovered something I missed. To subscribe to the Second Style calendar, you need to use the website interface. But from in world, you can add events to the shared calendar using the command below. Please let me know how it works out for you. Thanks!

I found an extremely cool gadget yesterday, courtesy of TheDiva Rockin. I was nattering on my other blog about a calendaring gadget I’d like to see in Second Life. A couple of tweets later, and much to my delight, I found that one already exists.

It’s called Calendar Cogs and it’s set up as a HUD. The “client” HUD costs L$250 and it allows you to integrate a Google Calendar with Second Life. The really cool part is that you can get reminders before events — something that often prevents me from showing up somewhere, and also allows users to add events to their own private calendar, or shared public calendars.

Yesterday I made a shared public calendar for fashion events in Second Life. You can follow the events in world by purchasing a Calendar Cogs HUD, setting up your account with Calendar Cogs and then subscribing to the shared public calendar by using the website interface. The calendar name is “SecondStyle” (no spaces!)

To add events in world, use this command:

/15 add Celebrity Trollop SecondStyle

I put the two events for tomorrow on the Calendar already. Feel free to add your own events to the calendar too. Please remember to include a SLurl or grid coordinates!

As you can see, I also linked a version of the calendar on the blog’s sidebar. You can click on a time to get more information about an event.

Elexor Releases New Limited For Opening Sim

1

elexor_limited002.jpgFollowing Celebrity’s post about jeweler Elexor Matador opening his sim on Saturday May 19, I would like to share his latest limited release with you. Elexor will be issueing this new limited pearl set “Himalaja”for the grand opening. Only 25 will be available. And I am so glad that I have the opportunity (sorry Celeb) to blog this piece as it reminds me a lot of a fresh water pearl and onyx necklace I own in RL. It was almost shocking to see a similar set in world. Ok, my RL set does not have all the tiny diamonds on the chain, but still it is funny to own something in world that looks a lot like something you own in real life. I love the earrings that have the “onyx” (for me it is onyx ever since I first laid eyes on it) on one and a pearl on the other earring.  The set comes also with a lovely bracelet and a dito anklet.

Elexor Matador Jewelry Grand Opening

5

emj_opening.jpgemj_double_cross.jpgI used to think Elexor Matador was one crazy jewelry designer. He’s incredibly prolific — over 1,000 items — extremely talented with the lil’ eeny meeny primwork — but he always sold his wares from networked vendors. When I first wrote about Elexor’s creations, I thanked his SL sweetie Amelia Abernathy for encouraging him to raise his profile. It is time to be grateful once again. Elexor Matador’s very own sim — Southern Paradise — will open this weekend to the public for the first time. It will finally be possible to browse all of his jewelry without having to page through endless pages of creations from one or two networked vendors. (Thank goodness!!)

Not only does Elexor have Amelia to thank for just pushing him to “get out there” a little bit more. No, actually, Amelia created and built the entire sim and she’s done a really masterful job of creating a store which equals in every respect the kind of upscale class that Elexor’s jewelry exudes.

So what’s new? Almost a literal ton of new designs — Elexor has been “embargoing” himself from new releases, hoarding new designs for this grand unveiling. There will be — among other things (see below) — a brand new limited edition jewelry set which is certain to be a prized possession of discerning avatars across the grid. But what else? How about a brand new metal texture — yes, it’s there. Elexor has created a metal texture he calls “gunmetal” which is a glossy, lustrous black, and as if that weren’t enough he added two new stone colors — peridot and tanzanite. Having worked in a jewelry store in my earlier days, I can tell you, these gem hues are just spot on with the colors of their real world analogs.

Snapshot_002.jpgSnapshot_003.jpgBoth of the pieces in these photos are in the new gunmetal. I’ve put inset detail close ups to help you get a better sense of the fantastic care and detail that went into creating these little treasures. On the left is the new peridot gem, while the right photo features the new tanzanite gem. Both designs are really versatile — they can dress you up or just keep it casual depending on your mood for the day.

I really wish I could show you the limited edition, but, alas, you will just have to go see it for yourself on Saturday. The trip is well worth it. Aside from the shopping convenience of no network vendors, the lovely sim itself, the brand new limited edition, there will also be prize giveaways every hour (“Good stuff!” promises Amelia), plus (I hear) some freebies worth picking up.

Block Party: May 19th 12pm SLT

0

block_party.jpgThe five fabulous designers at The Block are hosting a “Block Party” this Saturday, May 19th from noon to 3pm SLT. Seems like there’s a lot of stuff going on this weekend in Second Life — but this is an extremely excellent place to find very cool tunes and very cool threads for yourself and your boy.

Stop by and if your guy’s been wearing the same grotty jeans and tee for a while — maybe it’s time for a mini makeover. At least, that what my horoscope said this morning. Believe it or not!

Dark Eden’s Erebus Armor

3

Snapshot_0021.jpgI’ve been wearing this around in world for the past few days and not surprisingly garnering a lot of positive and surprised comments. The main focus of course is the amazing prim work that comes from the Erebus Armor set created by Etain Peregrine. It was my own idea to add the Sweet Dreams latex pieces underneath it. Since the armor leaned toward purple anyway, I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to show off the drow skin from Sin Skins that I sometimes wear — usually for dramatic, theatrical effect. The hair is Babe 3 in Milk by Six Kennedy of Gurl6.

I tried pairing this outfit with a big flaming sword, but such a massive weapon didn’t look right in the hands of the lithe drow, so instead I’m using Amulius Lioncourt’s Glaive of Darkness. (Re-reading this entry worries me that I’ve veered dangerously close to I Attack The Darkness — but no matter.)

Check out the prim detailing on the boots especially. Etain is well known for her boots, of course, but all of the details in this set are just outstanding — from the leather straps to the steel ring details. There are also multiple sizes of many pieces so you’re almost certain to find one that fits most “normal” sized avatars, male or female. The set comes with some additional pieces which I’m not wearing in this photo including gauntlets and a set of Boris Vallejo-pleasing pasties. Dark Eden recently released a new set of ankle style boots that are a touch less “fetishy” than some of the previous designs as well — they’re well worth checking out if you’re a fan of well made, highly detail boots.

Dark Eden is still running its “Dark Eden Girl of the Month” photo contest, which I first wrote about here. I’m thinking about entering this photo, actually. (I took it in — where else — Sanctum Sanctorum.)

Lacoste.jpgLacoste ran a fabulous contest for 6 models to feature in a fashion shoot. The winners have been picked:

The lucky winners will share L$ 1 million as a reward for the modelling shoot and granting rights to Lacoste to use the photos. Not bad huh?

New(ish) designer – Gracile

3

Ciera Bergman was kind enough to send me a landmark for an up-and-coming designer that she knows. And so during one of the rare points where my packet loss was low and I was able to maneuver throughout the grid somewhat successfully, I took a look in her store, and was faced with one of those moments of “I can’t draw a stick figure correctly, and this woman can do it all…life is soo not fair” jealousy.

The name of the store is Gracile, and the designer is Patrice Fierrens. Her main stock right now lies in shoes, but she has also dabbled in eyes, skins, and clothing, as I’ll be showing you.

gracile_aphroditeandcollete.jpgA well dressed leg is very pleasing to the eye, and Patrice seems to know this well. Here my legs are modeling her stockings, named “Collette”, and available in 12 different colors, from tame to bright hues. A very opaque, traditional thigh-high, with a very attractive sheen and lace bordering. And what well-dressed leg goes without jewelry? (Well, normally mine, but then again, my legs are normally scandalously nekkid. But anyways.) “Aphrodite” is the shoe I’m wearing, dubbed “shoewelry” by Patrice, and she certainly wasn’t kidding. I’ll be honest – these shoes weren’t exactly my cup of tea – but personal preference aside, they are put together well, and even have a gem in the middle that spins – which amuses me for some strange unknown reason. Bling/script warning (but not excessive).

gracile_city_girl.jpggracile_shirahime.jpg

From left to right, “City Girl” and “Shirahime”. “City Girl” is a sleek suede-type of boot, fantastic over slim pants. (Tip – if your pants are mod, and you want to wear high boots and eliminate the pants-through-boot effect, edit the pants and reduce the length…you can always change them back later.) “Shirahime” is a chic set of furry boots. The great thing about both of these sets, is that they are color-change – texture-change in the case of the City Girl boots, and the Shirahime set has the option to change the trim color.

gracile_laurapg.jpg

What I was most impressed with though, were the skins. Although I don’t know firsthand (again, stick figures are my artistic limit), I’ve heard that skins are not an easy undertaking at all. So, I was very excited to find some great skins (the one I am showing is called “Laura”) available at Gracile. And no, not just because I get to prove that Grazia is the only chicken amongst us. (Just kidding hon, we like you just fine as a chicken.)

Also, pay close attention to the eyes…these were also designed by Patrice, are very nicely detailed and look quite realistic.

Cut for NSFW pictures (well, not suitable for anybody, really, who wants to see nekkid Jay?  Not I!)

Carmen Y Dolores at Bossanova

0

bossanova_002.jpgI told you before that sometimes I find an item (or 2) that makes me shove everything else aside and hit my photosphere to take photos for the blog. Well, it has happened again.  Moire Georgette, the lovely designer of Bossanova dropped me these 2 dresses that I instantly fell in love with. These feed my nostalgia for the Mediterranean. They both come in several gorgeous colors, available as separates or in convenient fatpacks. In the photo I included an image of the lovely hair flower that comes with Carmen. Dolores comes with a cute pill box hat… but I realised that only after I made the photo… and since I need to run off for RL work… I’ll just leave it at that for now!

I wear the Alexandra III from ETD (formerly known as The Pullback from the couture collection). Elika retextured it and graciously dropped a willow pack on the members of her update group. She hopes to be able to release the retextured styles soon. The skin is the flawless  sunkissed Shale from Gala and the jewelry *oodles* is the Claire Ballet set from the über talented Caliah Lyon at Muse.

Delicious Dress by Kaiti Jensen

0

kaiti.jpgKaiti Jensen made this lovely dress, that is accurately called Delicious, to match some of Fallingwater Cellardoor’s Spring Stilettos. Now, I tend to overlook notecards in folders sometimes, especially when the clothes in it are so cute, so I read it only after I shot the photos. I’m currently smitten with Fally’s new Tuxedo Pumps, so that is what I wear in this pic. Had I read the note before, I would surely have matched the dresses with the correct Spring Stilettos, since I bought them all (bad Grazia….. you may call me Imelda). However, these dresses are truly delicious. You can adjust the skirt length at will, so it becomes a very versatile dress really, from an almost formal to a sexy little number.

The jewelry is Miriel Enfield’s latest release Moon & Tide in silver. It is just another example of the awesome skills of this wonderful designer. Not only does Miriel make some of the finest jewelry in SL, she makes it also very affordable and often also ads new freebies to her collection, so that everyone can have some stunning jewelry instead of just blinging all over the grid.

The hair is Babe 3 from Gurl6 in black, and the skin is Adam & Eve’s Pandora, skintone 3, make up 7.

It’s Official: Roslin Is a Classy Broad

1

Savvy_1.jpgIn case you didn’t know yet, Tete à Pied designer Roslin Petion is a totally classy lady. Her friends know it and now it is official. Dakota Buck from Savvy? has named her newest release in the Classy Broad collection after Roslin. And if Roslin Petion isn’t classy enough by herself, the Roslin outfit ads to the myth. *Oodles* … it is yummy. It comes on a ton of layers and with almost too many options, so when I picked it up I spend the first half hour just trying it on and playing with the various options.  Purple or grey, dress or capris, strapless or with shoulder straps, with or without blouse, puff sleeves or just plain mesh. This outfit is an open invitation to play and play some more, and just keep finding new combinations with it.

How can I wear anything else with this than ETD’s Roslin hair in smoke, and Tete à Pied skin Sophisticate 3 in bronzage medium skintone.

Newbie Fun Make Over Contest

10

[update 05/13/07 GH] This gets better by the day…. Kalley Koala from Ink Slingers has offered another L$ 1,000 worth of Ink Slinger goodies for the winner! Thanks Kalley for your generosity!

[update 05/12/07 GH] Rosemary Galbraith has just offered to toss in an extra L$ 1,000 worth of yummy stuff from Oh  What a Neat Boutique for the winner of the contest, and L$ 250 for the runners up. Thanks Rose, your so sweet!

grazia.jpgI remember when I first came to SL, I was looking in awe at those sophisticated, fashionable and drop dead gorgeous avies that had been around for a while… looking at my own (even not too bad) freebie skin and dito hair, system clothes and clumsy shape I so wanted to look as good as them.

Well, you all know I have been hanging out with Sachi from Adam ‘n Eve quite a bit lately and one of the things that we talked about was a fun contest for newbies. Tell us why you DESPERATELY need a make over and you just might be the lucky girl who goes off into the Linden sunset with a complete new look!

Sachi is throwing in a full make over. The winner of this contest will receive a shape, a skin, hair, prim lashes (you really can’t do without anymore once you have worn them once) a formal outfit, a casual outfit and some lingerie. Sweet Fallingwater Cellardoor from Shiny Things has promised to offer some matching shoes for the winner. The runner up will receive a newbie make over bag with also a new skin, hair and a cute outfit.

sachi.jpgHow to participate:

* entrants must not be older than 60 days on May 31st 2007

* submit a notecard to Sachi Vixen in which you write why YOU need a MAKE OVER and need it DESPERATELY. No need to say that the funnier, the more hilarious or the more heart breaking, the better. But keep it concise, not more that 150 words. Name the notecard NEWBIE MAKE OVER,  [your name]

*In the notecard include 2 photos of your avatar(name them NEWBIE MAKE OVER, [your name]. Size 512 x 512. One photo including you from head to toe, and one that you like (or hate, since you want that make over!). NB: submissions that do not have the photos IN the notecard will not be considered.

*After May 31st, 12 pm SLT is it NOT possible to submit notecards anymore. Any submissions that will be received after that time will not be taken into consideration.

* Sachi and yours truly will be selecting the winner in the first week of June. The winner will be contacted by one of us in world, and the results will be posted on this blog
