Fashion Challenge #4: Sexy Safari

By Celebrity Trollop | May 5, 2007

animal_print.jpgsexy_safari.jpgLux Yao set the theme for our next fashion challenge (and sent this inspirational photo) and it’s totally wild: show off your favorite animal prints. The winner of this challenge will win L$250 and the right to name our next fashion challenge theme!

How to enter in four easy steps:

  1. Create an outfit that meets the challenge theme. This challenge’s theme is “Sexy Safari.”
  2. Submit your photo to snapzilla using the special Fashion Challenge email address: fc@slpics.com (Learn how to submit photos to snapzilla — it’s really easy!) Please, one entry per person.
  3. Rate your photos and other photos submitted. (See all fashion challenge submissions.)
  4. Second Style bloggers and magazine staff are not permitted to enter or win (but we can vote on submissions!)

I’ll take the top three rated photos with more than 20 votes. Then we’ll choose the winner by voting on the finalists here. The top voted photo here will be the winner!

Preliminaries go from now until May 16, 2007 at 11:59 pm SLT. Our finals will go from the 16th until the end of May 19th, 2007. Then our next challenge winner will be decided. Good luck and have fun!

  2. I entered this contest and the last one and am wondering about all the low scores. I am curious as to what others think about this. Are the entrants trying to sabotage the other scores? I did vote for the other entries last time and thought I was fair. This time I decided not to vote at all (except for mine of course… lol). I think its a conflict of interest to do so. IDK… maybe they deserve the low scores… just wondering what anyone else thinks.

  3. It looks to me like a bunch of people went through and gave everyone but 1 or 2 people super low scores. Pretty typical. The same crap people used to do on the product forums. Pathetic, but sadly not surprising. Any time anonymous scoring is allowed, it seems to bring out the petty in people.

All in all, there are some really great entries, and I hope people don’t get discouraged by a bunch of Heathers.

  4. Looks like someone has figured out the cache trick and they’re using it to negatively affect some scores while pumping others. 70+ votes in under 20 hours??? I’m not even sure some entries get that many votes throughout the whole course of one of these challenges…

Not trying to stir the pot but I agree, the competition has gotten a little funky this time around. I’m not entering this time because I am going to be away but….Good luck everyone and keep the spirit fun! :)

  5. I always get amazed by low scores too, and I’d agree with Jonquille, some people get their kicks low grading.
I rate every entry as though I’m not entered. I enter these for fun and to get off my sim (”Oh thank god, I can go to rome”) and because it’s a nifty excuse to buy new things ;)

  6. I had no idea someone could be so viscious. I just received over 70 votes in one hour. My rating went from 3.1 to 2.5?

This is my first Fashion Challenge and I was so excited. I pointed all my friends in the direction of the page and encouraged them to vote.

Now someone has gotten nasty and sabotaged my entry. I wish I’d never entered at all. Why are people so mean?

  7. I’m really sorry this has been happening. Cristiano and I are investigating this issue and trying to come up with a good solution for it.

If need be, I will just have to cancel this challenge and postpone future challenges.

I’m really disappointed that some jerks just want to ruin something that’s supposed to be fun. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by this behavior, but I am.

  8. I think canceling and/or postponing challenges would be a shame. Scores aside, the challenges are fun to participate in and I’ve been enjoying seeing what people come up with and how they interpret them. (Not to mention jotted down quite a few notes about things I want to go take a look at in world.)

I think most of your readers are bright enough to realize what’s going on when they see one score soar and every other score plummet within the span of an hour or even a day, and it isn’t the photos with the low scores that end up looking bad. I don’t know how you’d reconcile that with choosing a winner, though, without a big headache and a whole lot of book-keeping.

  9. I sent you an email regarding the fashion challenge. I, unfortunatly, am I stupid noob who read the postcard part a little too late and mistakenly uploaded the picture to my computer instead. Hopefully, you can get back to me on this!

  10. You know what? I wasn’t going to enter this challenge because of the whole scoring thing… but screw it, I want an excuse to dress up and take pictures. ^_^ If some loser wants to give me a hundred low scores, then so be it, I’m not going to regret missing this challenge like I did the last one.

  11. I saw and commented on the all the catty low ratings on Carissa’s entry when I saw it. I decided not to enter because I already get a ton of negative ratings from the masked 1 star bandit on Snapzilla ROFL….don’t need any more :) I still enjoy the contests but the voting is obviously not working - time perhaps to make it purely about what the ladies of Second Style like perhaps? Don’t know but I have often thought the ratings at Snapzilla were just not working anymore.

  12. This is the only the second time I’ve submitted so I have no idea what scores usually look like - I just figured, since all the scores are in the same range, that this was a tough crowd!

I hope the contests stay - for me, I just like the pretty pictures, the creativity of combining elements from different sets to make a unique outfit, and of course, seeing more stuff to go buy. I love getting all that from people who are not part of the usual fashion-review circuit (love them, too, but this is a wider range of style preferences).

Don’t worry about the votes, just have fun with it. I didn’t even tell my friends I was doing this, to avoid positive ballot stuffing - but in the end, it’s not such a big deal if it’s stuffed to beef up a score or to keep it down. we still all get the pretty pictures and shopping ideas.

  13. Cristiano and I have some ideas we’re working on to help counteract this. Some of them should be rolled out in the next Snapzilla update. (I don’t know when that will be, but it encourages me.)

  14. Hedwig,

I sent you a separate email — I didn’t get your email to me, unfortunately.

  15. On the topic of low-rating spam…

I’ve been experiencing it, too. A bombardment of 2.0 or less ratings.

I think it may be time to assemble a non-biased panel of judges to judge these contests.

  16. Really, should we be surprised? It’s just like best in [whatever] contests in-world: either a popularity contest, or semi-ruthed noobs win bc people are unwilling to vote for people who are deserving.

  17. Are the finals up yet?

  18. wow thats really sad! i hadn’t known about these contests until this one and decided to give it a shot. the first vote i got was 1 star..okay my entry might not be the best but i dont think its that terrible!

well i didn’t vote anyone lower than a 3. but i don’t think my votes made much of a difference seeing some people have as low as 1’s. maybe they should make you sign up before you can cast a vote or something. oh wait..then people will be making 100s of accounts. lol!
