What cheers up a Fashionista…?

By Jaydei Benmergui | April 1, 2007

Why, shopping, of course!

1-800-BETTIE’S, while not the compulsive shopping hotline I was hoping it was (the little conscience dealie inside me was yelling that I need help, that silly critter), instead offered therapy in the form of new clothes…yippee!

As you may have noticed, I’m a sucker for a well-made suit, and this charming little number had me grinning like an emo kid discovering coffeeshops. It consists of a shirt/skirt/glitch undie combo that put together a lovely, form-fitting retro ladies suit in a gray checked pattern, with white accents. Optional prim cuffs (this tends to be a common accessory in the clothing here, and I personally love it) and a thin belt are also included.

What thrills me most about this outfit though? It’s versatile. I’m modeling the outfit with Calla’s Anemone hair, which gives the suit a classy spin - but you can just as easily toss on Artelleri’s Sabrina hair and maybe some white shoes, and have a funky Lucy Ricardo-esque look. And what girl doesn’t love Lucy?

For the month of April, this suit is being sold for a lower “promotional” price, along with her other new releases. Go take a look, but fair warning - if you like the demure retro look, be prepared to love everything at this shop.

Tableau_Freebs.jpgWhile I love girly suits, I felt I needed something more extreme. And a mini-vacation in the lovely desert (can a desert be lovely??) of Tableau was just what the doctor ordered. Pfft…shows what I get for asking a cat psychologist for medical advice.

I figured I would start with a new haircut, and a little boutique called Nylon Outfitters was the perfect place to go. I’ve long been in love with Nylon’s hair - it’s fresh and unusual. I hadn’t looked through her hair collection in a long while though, and was pleasantly surprised to find this style. Lots of grinning, this time like an emo kid at their first open mic night.

Called “Short Punk Hair”, this is one of the few Nylon hairs I bought that I only had to adjust a teensy bit (Caveat for Nylon’s hair - they tend to be huge and need some adjusting - they’re well worth it, though). It’s fabulous, and looks soft, and no, you can’t touch my head to see how soft, you weirdo.

After my awesome hair experience, I just had to play tourist. The shirt and necklace I’m wearing are only a few of the freebies available at the Tableau tourist stand…there are also men’s shirts available, as well as little cacti knick-knacks.

Nylon_Heart_Corset.jpgThen while browsing through Nylon’s new clothing selections, I happened upon my Weekly Item of Hawt Lovins (tm…?), her Heart Corset set. The corset has a smooth leather finish and beautiful lacing in the back…ever feminine and daring, as a corset should be. The panties are boy-short style with lacy edging, very pretty and simple.

I paired the outfit with a necklace from Cailyn’s and back-seamed stockings from Charlotte Hausdorff Fashion. The shoes are the Slipper Pumps from 1-800-BETTIE’S.

All of these items available at Tableau.

So what have we learned today?

1) Suits + kicky freebies + new hair + hawt corsets = one happy Jay

2) I am no longer allowed to blog late at night. Jaydei gets cheesier as the night passes (and apparently, also talks in third person)
