Skin by Lovey Darling

Snapshot_005.jpgSnapshot_006.jpgI’ve written a couple of times about how much I like the skins by Lovey Darling — a new skinner who started her store about a month ago. I promised that I’d do a longer review of the skins and show off some pictures of just how lovely Lovey’s work really looks. To the left are two safe-for-work (I hope) shots of the skin. Below the fold, I have some full monty shots which may not be safe for work. (If you’re reading on an RSS feed, I guess you get to see everything all at once. Lucky you.)

For me personally the skin by which all others are judged in Second Life is Starley Thereian’s Vogue skins. So it’s with a tiny sense of amazement that I find myself as drawn to these skins as much as I am. They are certainly not as refined as Starley’s skins — they lack some of the really beautiful subtle touches of Vogue, but they still match up pretty well — an astonishing conclusion considering how long Lovey has been working on skins.

The first thing that really grabbed me about these skins are the lush, pouty lips. The choices here really go so well with the eye makeup too. Kiwi, for example, has a bright red lip stick paired up with a brilliant green eyeshadow. Mulberry, as I’m wearing in these pictures is a smoky red lipstick with a bronzed smoky eye shadow with dark black eyeliner.

But beyond just the makeup, the facial details here are top notch — the nose highlighting and nostril shading is excellent, the ear fold definition is strong and well done. The facial highlights and hint of blusher really add to the overall effect.

In general, Lovey’s skins have some of the best body shading to be found on any skin in Second Life. While this skin doesn’t have super hard body buff abs (like say on X2 skins), there’s still a pronounced and defined abdomen and the bone structure as outlined on the collarbones and the shading on the shoulder blades is really excellent.

If I were to make one complaint about these skins, it would probably be about the nipples. They’re nice enough, but it seems almost like they don’t /quite/ fit with the rest of the skin to me. I would prefer them to be a touch more pronounced, perhaps, maybe a shade darker. But to be honest, the only time anyone sees them is during a skin review, so maybe it’s not so important. The bits below look attractive and offer a reasonable amount of definition without being pornographically obsessive. Lovey offers each makeup tone with a neatly maintained patch of pubic hair (not just a landing strip either) or bare (I’m wearing bare here, obviously.) Since I got these skins, they’ve become my “go to” bare skins — whenever I need to model a super low cut lingerie panty or bikini bottom these skins are the first ones I go for.

One other thing that’s really tickled me is how well the lipsticks match up with the fabulous Tete a Pied prim nails. The claret nail color, for example, matches the mulberry lipstick almost perfectly. When you have serendipity like that, you just have to savor it. (And show it off!)

The executive summary is that I’d be happy to make these my “every day” skins in my Second Life and I do wear them with some frequency. I certainly hope that Lovey continues to develop and release new makeup sets — they’re beautifully shaded and make your avatar look fabulous.

Lovey’s Boutique has a few locations, but I always visit the one in Amour 193, 165.

The skins are priced at L$900 for a single or a super bargain at L$2400 for a 4 pack. Currently available makeups are: blueberry, bubblegum, cafe, cherry, kiwi, mulberry, peach, vanilla. There are five skin tones available, but I’m modeling the “chai” tone which is a very appealing medium hue.

  2. I loved these skins as well. I actually really like the nipples (tee hee) and I don’t find them blurry at all. If there were a freckled option, I would be happier.

Beautiful work and definitely a great price for excellent skins. They’re my new favorite at the moment.

  3. Awwe. I wouldn’t feel so bad for you but you don’t look any better in a decent skin either. Maybe you could buy a shape! Or do reviews and ask us readers to pick out a new shape for you?

  4. D.B.,

Feel free to leave some suggestions where I should shop for shapes in the comments.

    Thanks!
