Relay For Life 2007
By Grazia Horwitz | March 3, 2007
Hi fashion lovers, I bring you no fashion news this time, but something else I really need to share with you… last year’s Relay For Life, the mega event to raise funds for cancer research, raised over 40,000 USD in Second Life alone, and now, in the third week of the 2007 edition we can only expect that this year will be bigger, better and above all that it will raise way more money for the good cause, since the number of residents is so much bigger than last year. Read more about last year’s results here.
The annual Relay for Life Walkathon, a 24 hour event all over the grid, with lots of fun for the participants, will take place on July 28. So please put that date in your schedules and be there! However, the several sponsor teams will be organizing tons of fundraising events before that date, so you all will have plenty opportunities of hanging out, meeting people and contributing in a fun way to a research that is so important for humanity.
Yours truly teamed up with a bunch of awesome people in the Shopaholics For A Cause team and we are currently brainstorming about the funniest, coolest and of course most effective ways of getting as much Linden Dollars out of your fashionable pockets as we possibly can for this charity. More information will follow, probably not on this blog.. after all it is for fashion purposes, but I’ll let you know how to keep track of our actions. However, I’ll be more than happy to announce ANY Relay For Life ‘07 related fashion event, organised by ANY sponsor team in order to give you best overview on all special releases, fashion shows, auctions etc.
In the mean time, we would be so incredibly grateful if you would place one of our Relay For Life Donation Kiosks on your land, in your shop or wherever you may rez your prims. On the Relay For Life in SL page there is a map that shows kiosks all over the grid as tiny yellow dots.. that map is not completely yellow yet! IM me in world if you want one and I’ll drop it on you, together with a notecard on how donations are being processed. It woud mean so much to us.. the Shopaholics For A Cause are determined to become the best fund raising team of this edition.
Shopaholics For A Cause are: Shai Delacroix, Colleen Desmoulins, Pushbutton Skolnick, Aradia Dielli, Roslin Petion, Aemilia Case, Andy Zadeh, Catero Revolution, Truth Hawks, Six Kennedy and myself and for now, on behalf of all of us, I thank you all for supporting our efforts and supporting Relay for Life 2007.

I made a post about about Relay for Life. I believe it is a great iniciative. I donate some Lindens.
Posted by: Ana Lutetia on March 7th, 2007 at 2:48 pmPersonally, I am NEVER having anything to do with Relay for Life again and though the American Cancer Society does good work, it will be a long time before they ever get another cent of my money.
When buying a product that is being donated to Relay for Life, one has to make sure to type in the correct amount for the item. Anyone that has used a vender like this can see how easy it would be to type in a wrong amount. Now imagine if you will, that you made the mistake of adding an extra 0 to the price. You have now increased the price exponentially! Once one hits pay there isn’t any kind of “are you sure” or anything like that, you have now paid this new price. Every retailer in SL would see that a mistake was made and would be more than willing to fix it, but NOT the American Cancer Society!
Not only will then not even discuss it, they won’t even give one the opportunity to still give that much of a donation by going to other retailers that are offering items and at least getting something back for the donation.
Yes, I absolutely should have been more careful and should have noticed that I had added an extra 0 to the purchase price. But the lack of any discussion about the issue just sickens me. Mistakes happen. They need a way to correct them!
Second Life deserves better than this!

Hi! I’m Fay, one of two chairs for this years Relay For Life and I am so SHOCKED at the experience you had with one of our teams’ vendors. And I certainly understand your frustration and disgust. Someone should have responded. I think the confusion might have been a communication issue and I regret that error. You should have been able to see clearly who to contact. We will work on addressing that problem.
Each vendor is set out and sponsored by a team of people raising money for the ACS signature event Relay For Life. That team puts the item in the vendor and is responsible for it but you a donor would have no way of knowing that and would naturally hold “Relay” responsible; it really wasn’t. In fact I know if you had been able to find the right team to talk the issue would have been taken care of quickly and professionally for you.
Relay for Life teams are made up of SL’s most generous and compassionate citizens. Not one of them would have slept until you were satisfied. I say that with confidence and pride. They let profits go, hours of sleep escape, and put their lives (SL & RL) on hold to raise funds for the American Cancer Society, this type of person wouldn’t take 900L from you intentionally and that is the type of people that make up Relay.
Please contact me and I will contact you. I can’t change your experience, or your mind, but I can refund your money and ask if you would please give Relay another chance. We are here to fight cancer by raising money, not to steal it.
On behalf of the Relay For Life Teams, I offer an apology and a refund.
