About Vintage
By Grazia Horwitz | February 9, 2007
Neferia Abel, designer of the labels Embla and Ivalde, has always been into drawing. Years ago she made a paper doll collection with costumes from the Middle Ages through the 20th century. Now she starts doing the same in Second Life with a beautiful collection of 50’s and 60’s outfits. I haven’t seen Neferia for a while and when she invited me over, I was so surprised that in the mean time she had opened a new store in the same Bryggen sim, which is more spacious and more of a unity than her previous shops. I IM’d Celeb who just came online, and she might ad her 5 cts to this entry later, because she was so enthusiast about it too.

Anyway… the clothes… I’m in love… Jacky Bouvier-Kennedy-’O, Stepford at its best, Grease, sweet sixteen, it’s all there and so well made. I’m impressed with the texures this lady does. Some are photosourced from real vintage fabrics, others are hybrids and some she totally painted herself. Neferia spends a lot of time scavenging for nice fabrics and it shows. The effect is just stunning. Right here you see the lovely Selma in blue. I’m an idiot when it comes to polkadots and these are so nice. Put the starch into your petticoats and off you go…. The other dress is called Katherine, although I think Jacqueline would have been better…. the floral design, the square neckline, the sleek skirt…. it’s uber stylish.

The creamy yellow dress… wear it to the prom and become homecoming queen… is so sweet. It’s called Grace and indeed it reminds me of the beloved Grace Kelly. The flowers on the dress are so subtle and the prim skirt moves very nicely when you walk or dance. Last but not least a lovely formal called Kirsten with a gorgeous lace bolero and dito ruffles along the neckline. This is only a small part of the vintage collection of this busy bee Neferia. In January alone this lady has been making 29 outfits, and she has several more in stock that are in various stages of readiness to be released. Keep an eye on this designer who has been in world less than six months and creates these beautiful things.
In addition to the usual credits that will follow below, I would like to give you a close up on the Tete ą Pied fevrier skin that I’m in love with… I think these are the prettiest red lips I’ve ever seen in SL and I adore the beautymark on the cheek, and oh well.. since I’m at it… in this picture I wear the updo that Elika Tiramisu released in her mega shop udate the other night and which she named after the maker of the fevrier skin, Roslin. Next to my good old ETD’s Maaliyah, a definate new favourite of yours truly.

Posted by: Abby Bloxome on February 10th, 2007 at 5:40 pmThe Fevrier is just to the right, as you come in the west entrance to Tete a Pied., across from the handbags.
I must say that I really like the look of these dresses.

Posted by: Evelyn Edelman on February 20th, 2007 at 11:34 amAll the old stuff I wore as a child is coming back. Kinda scary and makes you feel old, but it looks great most of the time.
