Reveal Fashion Show Favorites

5

Snapshot_015.jpgI had a wonderful time at the Reveal Fashion show produced by Atlantis this past weekend. 10 designers — some of whom were new to me — really put on an impressive display. Grazia already wrote about Shai’s brand new dress “Reluctant Seductress,” and I decided I’d split off Alaska Metropolitan’s La Burlesque line to its own post. (I had too much trouble deciding what I’d show from it, so I just photographed it all.)

I’m leading off with the Nicky Ree gown named “Shimmery Shimmer” which just totally floored me. Nicky teased me with a picture of the gown before the show, and I knew I’d like it then, but I was just blown away by the texturing here. It’s really exquisite work. To be honest, I think it’s one of the best looking gowns I’ve ever seen in Second Life. Shimmery Shimmer definitely lives up to its name — and there are a bunch of different ways that it can be worn, because Nicky included the pieces for the gown look, of course, but she also included a set of pants too if you wanted to make this into a pantsuit for some reason. (I personally can’t think of a reason why I’d want to do that, but you can!) Shimmery Shimmer also comes in “black gold” which is a more antiqued looking color than this one, a purple and red version, if you’d prefer jewel tones instead of metallics. (But being good lil’ fashionistas you’re all going to go for the gold, right? Right. :-) ) Find this gown and three other new designs at Nicky Ree’s flagship store in Deco 86, 96, 33.

Snapshot_003.jpgMoodii Moxie of Simplicity showed off seven (yes, seven) brand new designs. I liked this one to the left, Sally, the best. Sally has a great stylized floral print on a satin tube top paired up with a prim skirt accented with matching silver scroll work on the hem and at the waist. I’m also showing off one four new hairs released by Selena Gateaux of Goldie Locks. This style is named Porscha and its a sort of “messy piggie” style with some slinky flexiprim pieces added for a nice flow. The rose choker is a brand new design by Astry Mirabeau named “Rosy Croix” because it’s got stems made from pewter colored thorny prims — I think it adds a lot of edgy style and still remains flirty and girly which is what Sally is all about. Moodii’s and Selena’s stores can be found on Nantli Xolal (213, 125)

Snapshot_011.jpgSnapshot_012.jpgThis next designer Arikinui Adria of Nuclear Boutique was a revelation to me. When I saw her Delicate gown (far left, black and white) I couldn’t wait to try it on for myself. I was really impressed with the construction quality of this gown, and the styling in classic black with crisp white accents really grabbed me visually. There’s also a really beautifully done flexiprim bow accent at the waist line, and the jewelry that was created for this gown — pearls — really adds a lot of class to an already classic design. The second design of Arikinui’s that I enjoyed watching was the El Dulce dress. This tiered gown comes in several different colors, but the blue I’m showing here (on the right) was the color that I saw in the show. The color is lovely, but the most impressive thing about this design was the way that the tiered flexiprims moved when my avatar moved. The El Dulce dress is also currently part of the Virtual Angels fund raising drive. Look good and do good at the same time.

One more thing of note about Nuclear Boutique — Arikinui included shoes along with each dress, and they come as part of the purchase price. It’s nice knowing that you’re picking up a set of coordinating shoes at no extra cost. You can check out Nuclear Boutique for these two outfits and a lot more including hair designs, too, at the store on Archipelago Wild (25, 235, 305).

Snapshot_013.jpgThis is “Blooming Threads Rhodoproxis” by Fabala Snakeankle of Snakeankle Bit You. The design as it’s packaged resembles a silk, but leaving the prim piece off, actually nets you a tropical swimsuit — and the outfit really lives up to its name as it’s composed of “threads” which resemble the vines of the flowers which have been layered over the outfit, front and back. This is a clever sartorial conceit, because it looks like you’ve just managed to cloth yourself with living flowers. Blooming Threads is one of four outfits that Fabala debuted at the show — her store is located at Valuta (218, 7).

Snapshot_005.jpgPictured to the left is one of the most interesting swimsuit designs that I’ve seen on the grid for a while. It’s named Chisel and it’s a creation of Savonah Madonna of Savonah Designs. Savonah is another “new to me” designer but she’s actually been creating swimwear in Second Life for quite a while. Seeing the super sexy, ultra revealing Chisel slink down a runway was a fun way to be introduced to a fashion label. Chisel is available in the black/red combination I’ve pictured here as well as a two-tone blue version. Among other things, I really like the application of the sheen highlighting and I think the very thin straps have been painstakingly put together to overcome the warp of textures around the avatar mesh. One thing that got me was that /this/ thong bottom is very low cut — so if you have any bare skins in your inventory you’ll probably need to wear them when you’re pool side in this outfit. Savonah Designs can be found at Jouppi (140, 120, 151).

tarnished_silver_tazzie.jpgmusic_booty_tazzie.jpgFinally, two new designs (of five total shown) by Tazzie Tuque of Tazzie’s. On the left was a gown design that garnered a lot of oohs and aahs from the crowd when it was finally on display to the crowd. Tarnished is available in silver, as shown, or gold if you prefer. Tarnished stood out because it has fantastic metallic accented whirls and whorls on the bodice and the hem of the skirt — and this gown skirt moves beautifully. Second is a really fun, very sexy “booty girl” outfit named “Music Booty” because it’s covered in musical symbols, and has, well, booty shorts. Sadly although the boots shown in the ad do suit the outfit perfectly, they’re sold separately. Music Booty also comes some different colors than the hot pink shown. You can check all of the colors, plus the other three new releases at Tazzie’s Main store in Cosmet (33, 185)

Fergie-licious!

2

Snapshot_001.jpgDesireCinquetti Dannunzio of 2HOTT sent me a copy of this cute hip-hop flavored outfit named “Bossy.” Bossy comes with a tintable white bra, a denim jacket with some really great drawn on button detailing and a pair of distressed denim capris — although there is a longer and shorter option for the pants layer. This outfit has some attitude and so I wanted to express it with some custom belly tats (assy’s bitch yo) and a fun older ETD hair named “Newsie II.” To finish everything off for my Fergie wardrobe call, I found a great pair of lo-top sneaks.

Digital Dragon Designs sim grand opening 3/1, 10am SLT

0

ddd_sim_opening.jpgZoey Pinkdot at Digital Dragon Designs sent me a notecard with the details of their HUGE sim opening this Thursday, March 1st starting at 10am. Tons and tons of new DDD items, but also a male and female goodie bag for L$1! Zoey writes in the notecard that

the bags will be full of things like shoes, jewelry, shirts, and the like and will ONLY be available for the first 24 hours of our opening. So Friday, March 2nd, 2007 at 10 AM SL time the bags will be deleted.

They’ve also organized their merchandise into 8 different stores — one for shoes, one for clothes, and so on. I must admit I’m most excited to see the new DDD animation overrides and poses. I have both pinup packs and they’re both so great! Congratulations to Ninja and Zoey — and make sure to stop by and pick up your goodie bag. Digital Dragon (113, 113)

How to teleport someone who isn’t your friend

6

Something non-fashion related, but still something that bugs me every day — post update version 1.13.3, teleporting someone who isn’t your in-world friend is extremely annoying. Today, I found a tip by Torley Linden about how to make it work anyway. Torley writes:

Show the Client menu (by pressing Ctrl-Alt-D) and go to Client menu > View Admin Options (Ctrl-Alt-V). This is a safe feature that displays powers available to Linden Lab employees — don’t worry, it won’t let you do any of them. Then, when you look someone up in Search, you should again see the “Offer Teleport” button enabled again.

I wish I’d known about this a week ago!

Mixed reality men’s fashion talk 2/27 in NYC

1

Walker Spaight posted this story on 3pointD, but I thought some of my readers would be interested in knowing about it too.

If you’re in the New York City area tomorrow, Tuesday, February 27, and want to participate in or just attend a discussion of male fashions in both the real world and the virtual world of Second Life, drop by the A.I.R. Gallery at 511 West 25th Street, Suite 301, in Manhattan, at 5:30pm Eastern time (2:30pm SL Time) for an event being put on by Daria Dorosh, a long-time professor at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology — and also a long-time explorer in virtual worlds. In fact, the organizers could use some help, so if you’re going to be in the area and you have some facility with Second Life, Skype and stuff like that, see below.

The event is a discussions of male fashion both in-world and in the real world. Bruce Damer, who’s organizing the event, is hoping to find SL residents who could show up to the gallery as well as those who could show up in-world. Extra points if you have a male avatar who’s a clothes horse.

If you’d like to help with technology side of things, contact Bruce Damer at bdamer -at- digitalspace -dot- com. If you attend, make sure you tell us how it went! Sounds fun.

Relika: New Shop, New Releases

1

relika_tunic.jpgRelika started her designing career in a tiny shop in Plush Micron, but has now moved to a bigger shop in the popular sim of Eventide South. She’s been on a designing flow.. recently she released the retro tunic set I’m showing you here… It’s been out for a while, but I just never got to blogging it. I like the 80′s style legging with the little lace trimming and as usual Relika throws in a little extra. In this case some reptile bangles to finish off the look. The tunic set is also available in brown.

relika_babydoll_001_001.jpgThe other day she dropped this cute babydoll outfit that comes with some really good fitting jeans with tiny pockets on your butt. The retro print is an element that becomes a characteristic in Relika’s work, she’s strong on retro looking clothes and what I personally adore is that I hardly ever have to adjust something in the prim attachments that Relika makes. The babydoll fitted perfect without even touching one single prim!

In these pictures I wear Tete à Pied’s sophisticate 4 in bronzage medium, and ND’s Impulse in Starfish (cool tones medium). The shoes in the babydoll photo are Paper Couture’s strapped diamond heel – granite.

Reluctant Seductress…….

5

Oh yeah… her little vacation on sunny Bocaray beach has done Shai good. When a couple of weeks ago she passed me the adulterer suit to take a look at, I joked if we naughty girls could expect anything nice too and Shai said that she just might come up with something tempting for the ladies too. Last night I thought of that again, so I asked Shai if that idea had sticked to her mind, or got washed away with the sea water and the booz.

shai.jpgLadies (and gentlemen too), the idea did stuck to this beautiful mind… and Shai’s hands have turned into the most seductive, sweet, gorgeous chantilly lace dress that you have ever seen. She showed me this picture earlier today, but I did not want to post it right away, otherwise you all would start IMming her, asking when and how she’d release it, and I admit, I’m being totally selfish here… I wanted Shai to be able to work in peace and get it out as soon as possible. I want this dress!!!! And it’s out now… so you can too! Anyway.. as beautiful as the picture is.. it does not do the dress right…. it is of a lovely sheerness that does not show on the photo… Reluctant??? Wearing something like this you are all but reluctant :-)

Bump: Reveal fashion show, February 25 & 26, noon SLT

3

reveal_ad.jpgBump Just wanted to make sure that this popped up to the top because I was able to attend this afternoon’s show and there’s soo much great new fashions — some of them won’t even be generally available for sale until later in the week too — your chance to really jump on some pre-release goodness. I have a LONG blog post covering all the new things, but it won’t be ready to post until after Sunday’s show is over. So if you can make it at noon SLT, plan to attend. It’s really worth the lag!

Atlantis is putting together a really cool fashion show for this upcoming weekend — “Reveal!” featuring all new designs from 10 different Second Life content creators. Nicky Ree was showing me some of the things she’s planning to *cough* reveal — and wow — they are stunning. Also included in this show are: OPIUM (where I think Alaska Metropolitan will be revealing her new Opium Addictive Fashion line La Burlesque — teasers can be seen here: 1, 2), Savonah Designs, Casa del Shai, Simplicity, SnakeAnkle Bit You, Nuclear Boutique, BELLISSIMA!, Goldie Locks, and Tazzie’s. The show will be held at the Rain Forest Fashion Venue at 12 noon SLT on both Saturday (Feb 25) and Sunday (Feb 26).

Should be a fun show — it’s always great to see brand new fashions sashay down a catwalk.

New Designer: Moire Georgette at Bossa Nova

4

[CT adds]: I thought the Vanessa dress was the best item that Moire sent to me. The overall look of the dress is really cute, and the prims have a nice flounce to them. And as Grazia writes about the thong, I noted the same thing last night to my neighbor Pushbutton Skolnick: “It’s a good thing I have on a bare skin — otherwise it’s a for certain Chewbacca moment!” when I tried on that thong. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Moire develops, because I think she has a lot of potential.

Guess you know me by now…. I go crazy when new, talented people enter the SL fashion designing playground. So when I heard that Moire Georgette opened a shop in Dos Corazones sim I dropped all my gardening prim attachements and hurried over.

bossacollage.JPGMoire makes everything from scratch, hand draws her own textures and spends a lot of time on getting it all right. And it shows. The Vanessa dress is a cute navy dress that looks silky and smooth in red. As Crono puts it… “if it weren’t for the collar, I’d look like a schoolteacher”. Well I guess that is because she wore it with some nice glasses, a hair updo and a strand of pearls and looked absolutely adorable. I chose to wear it more casual and find it equally adorable. The Luisa top is based on a top that Moire made for herself in RL years ago and will now for ever exist in SL, even when te RL top is long gone. I think it’s kinda cute to preserve a much loved RL piece of clothing this way. Oh, and did I mention yesterday I felt like bikinis? Moire has them. This leopard bikini comes both in a cup and a halter bra version, with either the bottoms I wear here, or a tiny thong. Let me warn you though… to wear the thong, you definately need a brazilian… it’s sooo low.

The collection at Bossa Nova is still small, but lots more is to be expected. I’d like to draw your attention to a very well done set of black and white, tintable, tops that Moire has on display. Really very well done, and because of the white being tintable, it should be in everyone’s inventory.

Bossa Nova is located in Dos Corazones: (79,122,25)

In these pictures I wear the ND guy’s hair Desire in Sable and Tete a Pied’s bronzage medium sophisticate 1. The jeans are Callie Cline’s Signature Denim Jeans “worn”

Risen From the Ashes

20

lacroix_haute_couture.jpgpc_ss.jpgUpdate [CT]: On the left is a real haute couture gown from the Spring/Summer ’07 Paris show by Christian Lacroix. On the right is an interpretation of that gown design for Second Life by the amazing and fabulous Paper Couture fashion house. Compare the detailing on the real gown to the detailing on the Second Life version! Like Grazia, I can’t wait to see what other runway-to-Second Life surprises might be in store for us given all of the incredible things that have been shown on runways in New York, London and Milan.

A couple of weeks ago we got the terrible notice that the Tableau sim, home of amazing designers like Barnesworth Anubis, Ingrid Ingersoll, Nylon Pinkney and Toast Bard, was destroyed by a massive volcano eruption. For more information on this apocalyptic event and it’s dreadful aftermath, please read the Second Life Herald.

houseoflu_001.jpgHowever, the talented survivors of what must have been one of the major disasters in SL, have joined forces once again and have rebuild Tableau, and I must admit.. it’s better than ever. The new Tableau is mexican, mariachi, pueblo… delicious. All former residents have found a new place to stay in the sim and there are some new residents moving in too…. the Lu sisters have build a magnificent shop in the main street of the sim. High profile building… lots of light inside.. monumental stairs. Stylish and special as we may expect from the ladies. I’ve been so blunt to peek inside and take a photo for you. No signs yet though of the much craved spring collection :-( .

Well… not really a fashion update.. just wanted to let you know…I’m just so friggin’ curious what the Lu sisters will come up with this season.

Let’s Talk Business

1

Last December, while building on her splendid Luminous Island, Sol Columbia told me that she and Nyte Caligari from Nyte ‘n Day would be joining hands in designing a new business line. Being a rather “corporate girl” I was delighted to hear that two of my favourite designers would be working on my favourite kind of clothes. Now time has passed, and slowly but surely this project is developing into something real. Although Sol has not been able to come in world as much as she would like to, she has been working on some outfits and recently showed the first (unreleased) result on her blog

Connate_Plum.jpgNyte, in the meanwhile, has released an outfit that is very wearable in any less formal business environment. Ok.. for a shareholders meeting I would like to have a jacket to complete this, but for my day to day activities… it’s just great. A nice pin striped skirt with a matching top and a scarf… what else do you need….. As always Nyte’s designs are awfully well done and I’m so pleased with the detailing on the back of the top. The little buttons give it just a little extra. Another big extra are the matching shoes that are available at Nyte ‘n Day!!!! These are made by El3gant Designs and I love the details IN the shoes as well as the nose. I’m wearing the Connate Plum outfit, it’s also available in grey with a pair of matching grey shoes.

Can’t wait til Sol is up and running again and the both of them can bring their ideas to the point of release.

Nyte ‘n Day is located in CoutureIsle: (76, 95, 62)

In this picture I’m wearing Hairapy’s Drew in Black as well as Gala skin Sun Kissed Mauve
