Mademoiselle Janvier, enchantée
By Grazia Horwitz | January 16, 2007
Tete à Pied sells skins. We all know that, and we are glad they do because they are GOOOD! I’m just not much of a skin reviewer, so I never really get to it to throw of all my clothes and show up for the camera naked for the sake of you all wanting to buy nice skins. My bits are mine and even when bought, I just don’t feel like exposing them.
However….. last night I received a group notice from TàP designer Roslin Petion that she and CJ Carnot have released a lovely classical retro outfit that can be bought with a limited release skin. Now that triggers my curiousity, because you can be good with skins… but are you good with clothing too? So this morning I hurried over to the Noveau sim where Tete à Pied is located and had a difficult moment when I really did have to choose between the cocoa and the slate version of the outfit. After lots of internal deliberations I chose the cocoa one and i’ved not regretted it. The brown tweed is luxurious, the optional prim fur collar a beauty, the soft pink frilly blouse is as well textured as we might expect from one of Shai Delacroix’ outfits and the knee long skirt is so chic.
I could go on forever on this outfit, but ofcourse there came a skin with this textured poetry. And you will want to know if it meets the usual high standard of TaP. Well, it does. I took the Medium Bronzage because it goes well either with my darker and lighter hair and the make up is everything I could hope for in Roslin’s skins. The lipstick is the most gorgeous red I’ve ever seen the eyes have a quiet rust/brown day make up. Although just beautiful I cannot do anymore without my prim Lynnix’s lashes, so I did keep them attached. What I particularly like about TaP skins is the hint of blue in the skin… when you take a very close look it’s as of you see the veins under the skin. So realistic. The only downside to this skin is what i think the quite heavy shadow under the chin, but that might be a light problem I’ve been having lately with my computer.
Oh, I IM’d CJ to compliment him on the release, but in my enthusiasm I must have made a mistake…. this is what he answered: “thank you, I haven’t seen the Fevrier yet, it’s still January”. Hehehe… it’s my wishful thinking… cannot wait to see what’s in store next month.

Yup love it :) I am a TaP whore :P
However, since the skins are so distinct, I see them everywhere - and often feel like I am looking at myself in a prim mirror ;) Hoping for more mod skins in the future so I can play with the look and make it more my own.
Posted by: Gillian Waldman on January 16th, 2007 at 7:09 amThank you for the review Grazia. Yes, that is a shadow, it is unfortunate that shadows look a bit awkward in sl but they can actually be a positive thing as well if you experiment with lighting, they add some depth to your face. While we are on the subject of pictures, I’d love to suggest to all your readers that they start experimenting with the option+0 key to zoom in, it allows you to zoom up really close but also keeps your face from getting distorted as you do so. You can use option+9 or 8 to go to default or zoom out but I always forget which is which.
I’m surprised to hear that you see so many people in TaP skin Gillian, you must only spend time around fashionistas. I think we are actually really a very small part of the skin market and outside of the fashionista community, I don’t see our skins worn much out on the grid. I really find it fascinating to see what skins are worn where. At Transylvania and Relic, you see mostly Nomine and Nevermore skins, clubs and the most popular ‘main stream’ shopping areas, you’ll be sure to find lots of Naughty Designs and Celestial Studios. It’s rather neat to me. As for mod skins, well the Naturelle line was possible because it was very little to no makeup. I have experimented with makeup on the mod skins and I’m find it very challenging to create a makeup look on that skins that manages to maintain our usual subtlety and complexity. The makeup is either totally drowned out or I’m forced to make it heavy and flat. Keep in mind that mod skins are basically a skin with a certain amount of sheerness so it is for all intense purposes fighting with the linden skin when you wear it.
Posted by: Roslin Petion on January 17th, 2007 at 2:46 pmOh and btw Grazia, I spoke with CJ and he there was no misunderstanding, he was just making small talk. He has no idea what he’s going to have on his plate for the next month. I hope people will love it as much as this month’s release though.
Posted by: Roslin Petion on January 17th, 2007 at 2:50 pmHey Roslin,
Posted by: Grazia Horwitz on January 18th, 2007 at 4:07 amthx for your elaborate comment and explication. Personally I do not dislike the shadow as it indeed defines my face more and draws good attention to my jawline, but others might see it as a flaw.
Hehehe.. wish CJ my best on creating something awesome like this months outfit.. dunno what you have t do to get him there… whip him?… but do it.. drive him to creative insanity :-)
Yeah, roslin is right, you’re going to see TaP if you hang with fashionistas but not much outside the fashionista community.
Posted by: CronoCloud Creeggan on January 19th, 2007 at 11:44 am[...] Overall, I really liked wearing the Cake skins with something as skimpy as a silk all the way to clothing with way more pixels like Tete a Pied’s recent Janvier release. They look good on and under all sorts of outfits and are in line with normal market pricing at around L$1,000 per makeup. (With savings if you buy a set, as usual.) I have some forthcoming posts where I’ve worn these skins in the outfit pictures so you can judge how they look in clothing for yourself. [...]
