Show off your gown in the Rainbow Room

Snapshot_001_1.jpgSnapshot_002_1.jpgYou might’ve heard that NBC simulcast the annual lighting of the giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in Second Life. But if you were just there for the virtual world equivalent of punch and pie, you’ve missed out on something truly spectacular. Bedazzle Studios — led by Aimee Weber — created the ballroom at the top of 30 Rock — the Rainbow Room complete with a gorgeously reflective marble floor and a beautiful hardwood dance floor. Perhaps the most stunning feature is a cleverly recreated view of Manhattan that surrounds the build.

How do you get there? Head toward the front doors of NBC headquarters, and then fly up about 220 meters. (Try coordinates 96, 123, 223 on any of the NBC sims.) While you’ve visiting, don’t neglect to pick up your warm wintertime goodies which include mittens, stocking hats and scarves in a panopoly of colors.

For my part, I found this incredibly beautiful champagne ball gown designed by Natalia Basiat (find her shop at Park 56, 170, 79). Natalia specializes in gowns that are vaguely renaissance inspired period pieces and has a smattering of more modern looking designs. Dressed in the gown, hanging out at a famed location to see and be seen and in the presence of such a wonderfully done build it was easy to feel a lot of holiday cheer.
