31 ‘dos in 31 days concludes

By Choice Sliter | November 3, 2006

1112006_0001.jpgFirst and foremost congratulations to Twiddler Thereian for making it through the hair-a-day challenge. A second round of congratulations goes to BabyDoll LaFontaine who was Twiddler’s competitive partner in crime. BabyDoll released a new latex lingerie costume every day in the month of October. You can view her list of releases here.

Twiddler has a complete wrap up post of the 31 Day experiment here (you’ll have to scroll down for the 31 ‘do’s info) with additional lessons learned listed here. I love the fact that Twiddler has decided to share this information openly on her blog. If you have struggled with finding a way to attract new business, the information on her blog will prove useful, especially her information about Classified ad placement and its affect on sales:

With regards to the Classifieds (which I love)…falling off the top page cost me a little over $15 a day in sales! I was on the the first page for the search word “hair” and sales were doing great…I was really excited. A few days later my sales fell drastically but I was not sure if it was SL patch time or just ebb and flow…but it stayed lower for 2-3 days until I had discovered I’d been [outbid]! Since I get almost all my new customers from Classifieds, I could really feel the change. If you design in SL, I encourage you to test the classifieds constantly.

The image chart to the left shows the Taunt Hair Shack sales throughout the month. Was the deadline focuses daily hair grind a success? I’ll let the verbose Twiddler sum it up for you, below:

Was 31 Dos a success?…………………Yes!
Was it fun?………………………………….Yes!
Did I want to cry some days?…………..Yes!
Would I do it again?……………………….Maybe! I’m Tired!

  1. The thing about the classifieds is really true, I have found if I take one out, its either ‘all or nothing’ meaning I go for the top of I don’t do one at all! I’m sure just having one in there helps to some degree, but the exposure of the first page, even the top half of the first page is increadible.

I guess my bussiness is a little easier though, im sure the classifieds for ‘hair’ are a lot more lindens to be on top than “mens clothing” or “prefabs” which is what I sell. But I have put out as much as a $25,000 L classified and the resulting profits during the duration of it were very worth it.

One thing I will say, is I think classifieds have to be used sparingly. Taunt touched on it, they key is you have to have something *new* to offer. If you keep running the same old ad for the same old stuff people stop looking, and its just money down the hole, or at least in my experiance.
