Do not refresh your browser. This is not a mistake. Yes, it is Choice you see decked out in a period gown. And no, it wasn’t horrible. In fact, it felt apprpriate to walk around a place like Tusk, or Castle Bran (seen here), decked out in crinoline and lace.
The gown I’m wearing is called Princess from Adam n Eve. It features a sweeping three-piece skirt prim that makes for more natural movement and a grand swoop of the trane. There are two bodices included: the long-sleeved jacket version that I’m wearing; as well as a lovely, off the shoulder version with a larger white lace panel on the bust (shown here, in green). The texture is crushed velvet and the skirt hem, bodice, and sleeves are trimmed in a fine lace. It is a regal, but not overly ornate gown that is perfect for dressing Victorian, Rennaisance, or perhaps attending a Dicksonian Christmas ball. Princess is available in five colors: black, white, red, green and blue (view all).
But like I said, wearing this gown felt appropriate, but it didn’t feel like me. And here we have my delimma.
You see, my friend, sachi Vixen, and I were talking the other day and she gently teased my love of sweaters and tweed, and my inhibitions toward more fantasy-type things like gowns, silks, and period clothing. Our conversation was jovial and in the end she sent me a copy of princess to try. A gentle nudge toward exploring something new. And indeed, that is just what this world was made for.
But as a writer it’s really hard for me to write about things that I’m not excited by. Unfortunately– for readers who like more fantasy, sex appeal, or glamour– what I am excited by are well tailored, casual clothes. Why? Because they fit my lifestyle (and yes, I mean my second lifestyle). If I’m giong to spend money on clothes, it’s going to be on items I would actually wear. Otherwise, it’s just lindens wasted.
That is not ignoring the fact that I do believe that fashion in SL is much broader than the fashion world in RL. I want to bring you as many tastes as possible, but I can only do it in a way that feels genuine. I can appreciate the fineness of any well-made garment, even if it is not something I like. Just as I like plenty of things that I would never wear. But I will only report on clothes that fit into those categories, if I can do it in a way that is honest and respectful to the readers of this blog, as well as the designer. Consider that a promise.

I’m pretty similar, preferring tailored clothing, so it’s hard for me to get excited over somet hings even if I think they look good for what they are. I too don’t want to buy things that aren’t “me”
But like you noticed it can be fun to experiment with victorian gowns or neko ears.
I have to agree… there’s tons of things in world that I appreciate from an artistic point of view, but would never think of owning, for my first style or my second. It feels weird to wear them, and I won’t spend money on them, so I know just what you mean.
What I find funny is how out of your element you manage to look in that dress, in your picture. ^_^ It almost looks like you’re holding it up in a costume store, showing it to a friend with an “Isn’t this silly, could you possibly imagine me in this?” look.
