Playing dress up

Adorable. Irresistible. Supremely crafted.
Not often can I use the same three adjectives to describe two separate products, but in the case of Nymphetamine’s Pirate Priscilla and Tete a Pied’s Sugar and Spice Doll Skins, those are exactly the words I would use to describe them.
Let’s start with Pirate Priscilla. Now I have been an admirer of paeoti Pomeroy’s ads for Nymphetamine since I first came in world. But, being a pretty laid back woman I’d always admired from afar, without daring to dive in. I thought that Nymphetamine clothes were for the other girls. The sexy ones. Not for dull, little introverts like me. Then I went to Vida Magnifica Fashion Show a couple of weeks, ago. paeoti’s burlesque-inspired pieces were so beautiful and so well-crafted. It was a delight to see them in world.
Perhaps this is one instance where the clothes do make the woman. You slide into a ruffled, lacy, prim skirt. You lace up a corset-style jacket around your waist. You slip an all-eyes-on-me, wide brim hat on your head and suddenly you’re a different person. Yes, clothes can do that to you. Especially when the designer has taken such care to perfect the shading on the back of the jacket, where the shoulder blades meet. When the ribbon on the hat has the genuine texture of grosgrain. When every prim, every piece of lace, has been carefully placed, you feel like the star of the show. I absolutely loved wearing this set and am looking forward to playing dress up in Nymphetamine more often.
But Pirate Priscilla was not the only thing I had the privilege of trying out today. From Raggedy Ann to Starley’s Rag Doll costume, I have had a bit of doll fetish come out this season. Feeding thirst in a completely different way is the limited edition Doll Skin collection from Tete a Pied. Tete’s skins are different from the other doll skin I am in love with, which was released by Celestial Studios earlier this week. This is a porcelain doll skin. It has the alabaster sheen on all of the bony areas like the brow and collar bone. This doll’s breasts shimmer. Her lips are glossy and heavily lacquered.
Wearing these skins, I felt like I had just climbed down off of some girl’s shelf. It was fun and freeing. This is fancy doll skin, the kind your grandmother spent a lot of money on and you’re not supposed to play with. It was so fun to slip these on and turn into something different. If you want to achieve the doll look, there is a note card included with eye and mouth shape guidelines. The skins look great paired with the Deep eyes from Celestial Studios as well as the Big Eyes from PixelDolls. Since this is a special edition, only one skin tone is available. The discounted price will disappear after October 31st.
So, should you expect to see me playing dress up from here on out? No. I’m still a dressy-casual chick. but every once in a while, it’s fun to dream. To play and have fun. I’m learning how to do that in my second life. And I’m grateful to creative designers like CJ Carnot, Roslin Petion and paeoti Pomeroy for making that happen.

[...] Seen in world: No Review copy: No Friends list: No Last not but not least, paeoti Pomeray has joined in on the doll craze that has swept over us this Halloween and introduced her version of the ragdoll costume, Raggedy Annie. This is a wild rendition of the traditional rag doll costume, that seems to owe is heritage to vaudeville. I love that it gave me yet another opportunity to play with my Sugar and Spice Doll skins from Tete a Pied. You can read the details about this costume on paeoti’s forum post. [...]
