Material Squirrel makes spooky, sexy

By Choice Sliter | October 13, 2006

Remember that Rolling Stone cover with Janet Jackson that caused so much controversy in the early 1990’s? Well, if you don’t, lucky you for being so young. Or, if you were just so into The Cure in 1993 that you didn’t even know that Janet Jackson existed, here’s a photo remind you. Next to it, you will find another new dress from Material Squirrel that is once again tickling my fantasies in a very odd way. What is it about me and fantasies this week?

Kala Bijoux of Material Squirrel brings us Dark Hands, a simple gothic gown with an awesome lace hem. Now that would be mildly interesting, except Kala dove deep into those dark, horror recesses of her psyche and decided that what this dress was missing was a pair of beautifully-illustrated skeleton hands gently cupping the breast. How sick and fabulous is that? I adore it. Especially the way the index fingers and thumb tips stick out over the skin.

According to her blog, Kala has just loved making spooky clothing lately, but promises to return to her less-spooky goth themes soon. I say, if the muse is making you produce things this unique and pop culture clever, play with her until she takes you somewhere else.

This dress is fun and creepy, yet manages to be sexy and feminine…in a creepy kind of way.

  1. AAAAAAaaah, I literally ADORE that dress. People that know me also know that I do not like gore or anything related. But when Halloween arrives, something unleashes in me hehe. Anyways this can totally be pulled with a rockabilly style too! It’s moddable, so oh boy the fun I had XD This dress really has my prefered hand-drawn feel to it too, and therefor I am in love. It is sooooooo cool! Bravo Kala, you seriously rock!
And this is WHY I miss blogging LOL * cries *
