Hem lengths short and long
By Choice Sliter | October 20, 2006
Every year the RL fashion experts tell us that hem lengths are moving up or down. The beauty of Second Life is that our legs are hairless, scarless, and ageless and we are free to wear our skirts however long (or short) we choose to. So in this post I bring you several new dress and skirt releases: from the modest knee-legnth, to the almost-labia-exposing.
The long
First, we have two recent releases from Janie Marlowe of Mischief. Traditionally, Janie’s skirts have leaned more toward exposing than covered up. But this week, she added a new flexi length to her arsenal and releases it in two pretty and demure outfits.
To the far left we have ribbons. This is a modern, though retro-inspired, sweater and skirt set. The off-the-shoulder sweater is detailed with ribbon laces that run down the sleeves. It’s paired up with a satiny black, polka dot skirt that is nicely accented with a wide belt. A lovely set for looking flirty and sexy, but not in ho-ish in any way.
Second from the left is Elaine. This look goes right to the heart of my Twin Peaks fetish. It’s nubby, marled turtleneck sweater paired with a knee-length grey and black plaid skirt. I love studious looks like these. It’s conservative, buut not prudish. These pieces were perfect for doing a little Choice mix-and-match, so I’m alswo showing the sweater paired with a shorter skirt, as well as the plaid skirt paired with a basic halter.

The short and sweet
A brand new designer, Charlotte Morrellet, introduced a slew of feminine, girly clothes under the bubbly brand name, Soda. Charlotte’s line has a retro flair. Many of the pieces remind me of things one might have worn to college in the 50’s and 60’s. In the photograph, I am wearing the Renee dress. This is a cute off brown dress with a cinched, empire waist. It features a single prim skirt, which I wasn’t sure if I would like. But once on, it didn’t bother me in the least. It’s a sweet and girly dress, perfect for tea time, cocktail hour, or slogging beers at Octoberfest.
This is just a small part of the Soda launch, though. Take look at Willow’s article on PxP for even more. My friend CronoCloud Creegan bought the Jackie dress. If you are tall and thin, you really should buy that dress. It’s sophisticated and gorgeous and perfect for slender frames. I will definitely be making a return visit to Soda. Looking forward to watching her collection grow.

The short and sassy
Next up is another release from Mischief called, Not So Chilly. It’s for those girls who know it’s cold outside, but just can’t let a little thing like 20 degree temperatures keep them from look hot. I love the variations Jamie used on the texture here. It’s an adorable knit set that is all about showing off those legs. In addition to the sage color I’m showing, Not So Chilly is available in khaki and black. (Janie released A LOT of other items besides the ones featured in this story, including some Halloween items and a ruffly cocktail. Be sure to check out her blog for details and photos.)

The short and sexy
Now when I was a baby newb, I spent 4 or 5 hours a day hanging out in clubs. What else is a new gonna do? I may have hung out in the clubs, but I didn’t have anything as sexy as this to wear. Just when you think that Luminosity equals radiant cords and tailored blazers, Sol Columbia goes clubbing and is inspired to createa skin-baring outfit called, Siren. No, this outfit is not for the modest and I am probably too shy to wear it out, but man is it is hot. Siren comes in a choice of red (shown), black, and a gorgeous turquoise. There’s a net overshirt that can be worn on the jacket layer (shown far right) as well as a choice of fishnet hose: thigh highs, or full length. Even though this outfit is a departure, Sol’s signature details are all over this set. Just look at that shot of the back ring on the top. See how the fabric has been textured to imply that there is actual tension on the ring? It’s touches like this that keep me turning to Luminosity every time I get dressed.
