ETD: Last chance for discontinued hairstyles

By Choice Sliter | October 2, 2006

Elika announced yesterday that the price has been reduced from L$800 to L$400 for all of the discounted Willow packs. The L$400 clearance sale will run through Wednesday, October 4th. After that time, these 40 styles will be permanently deleted and will no longer be available. So, if you have had your eye on any of these discontinued hair styles, this is your last chance to pick up a pack of 70 colors for just L$400.

  1. I hate to say this, but I think permanently discontinuing these styles is a bad idea.

Personally I think Elika and a few other designers should get together and “outlet mall” their older stuff.

Or instead of keeping the whole lot up, just have 3 or 4 in a “Blasts from the past” corner, and switch them out every once in a while. Kind of like how Disney re-releases movies every 7 years or so.

  2. I love the idea of an outlet mall, actually. I could totally see a whole outlet sim being created where you can buy “last season’s” clothes, hair and accessories. Mini-stores with old styles and discounted prices. Or giant mega store with lots of different brands. It’s a win for the designers, really. All they have to do is store the inventory with an alt created for their outlet and let the sales grow in perpetuity. With the population growing so rapidly, everything old is new to thousands of people coming in world for the first time every day. You are so right, Cloud. Someone should do this!

  3. Anyone want to donate a sim and a build and a few hundred or so prims to each designer, to do this?? Anyone willing to pay the tier for that?

The styles being discontinued are old and outdated. And has served it’s purpose. Rather than holding onto the past, I’d rather move forward and continue brining newer inventory to my store as I continue to improve my hair makin technique.

  4. Well I don’t necessarily think it would/should be one person’s burden, the outlet idea. And there is nothing wrong from a creative standpoint for designers to create, sell for a while, and then remove, and move on. I do, however, think that CronoCloud is suggesting a very powerful business idea that is worth exploring. As a consumer, the idea is very attractive. Whether it is feasible, I certainly don’t know. But I do think that it is worth looking into, assuming there is a collection of designers who interested and have the time and resources available.

  5. It could be done purely web-only, no need for in world posters, except perhaps as a promotional poster with regular items.

Just put “discontinued” items on SLB or SLX and never rez a poster in world for them at all.

  6. That’s an idea!!….lol damn I think I made that same suggestion to Starley a couple of weeks ago! Maybe not all the colors but at least a “naturals” pack like I have there now.

  7. Bonks forehead. Damn I didn’t think of SLB SLEX. That’d be great, free up prims, but keep the older stock available. You’d want to do a promo poster/notecard for that and maybe have one of those SLB kiosks on site (you can never find one when you want one)

I’d shop via SLB more if their search worked better.
