Talk about a mover and a shaker. Just days after her initial release, Shai Delacroix opens a second location (this time in Lalique) and introduces two new dresses in the New Products forum. Now, after nosing around her shop, I have spotted a few more goodies that she has yet to announce, but the Dorothy Cocktail Dress and Cebu Mailot Dress (shown left) are sweet promises of more great things to come.
What I like about this dress release, is that it shows a completely different side of the designer’s talents. Certainly, pants and halter tops are a part of every modern girl’s wardrobe, and Shai executed them nicely. But I suspect that the dress is where this designer turns when she truly wants to express herself. The dress is what she uses to have fun.
And that is precisely what I found wearing the Cebu Mailot to be: fun. And sexy. I’d also add sassy, saucy, and flirty.
The bronze color is warm and plays nicely with all skintones. The dress has a satiny appearance, with lovely wrinkling and gathering at the waist. There is tonal geometric pattern, which gives this dress a subtle, art decco appearance. This is not ignoring the show stopping, deep V of the halter that ends just above the navel. It’s a lovely, cleavage peak and deosn’t cross the line into fetish or ho-ware. The overall cut of the dress can just as easily read Jazz Era and speakeasy; as it does modern, millennium woman.
I couldn’t help but start dancing when I put this dress on (see far left), and certain swishes and sways of the skirt are bound to expose more than a thigh. I have become oh-so used to designers protecting my crotch from exposure that it was a bit of surprise for me when no glitch pants were included to layer beneath the flexi skirt. It’s th eonly complaint I have about the dress, actually. So, be sure to put on a pair of panties with this one…or not, depending on your fancy.
