Wandering the Countryside in Luminosity
By Choice Sliter | September 21, 2006
Sol Columbia’s first release under the Luminosity clothing brand occurred just a few days after I first arrived in SL. I tp’d to her store after reading a PxP review, only to find her–the designer in the flesh–working in the store, busily arranging posters. As a 9-day-old newb I was totally blown away. Designers were these mystical creatures who appeared on boxes and in ads, but whom I would never have the privilege of being in the same room with.
Although it’s a bit silly to me now, I admit that I still feel that level of awe-struck whenever I run into a designer. Last Friday, I was invited to a party and there were many designers there (no, I won’t name drop!). Even the RL me was wide-mouthed, staring at the computer screen going, "Oh my god, there’s ___!" I’m such an admirer of creative people who have the guts to actually create things, instead of just dream. I feel honored in their presence.
Uh oh… Choice is telling stories, again…
All of that just to say that I am huge fan of the Luminosity brand. I have bought something from almost every release. Sol’s dark, rich color palette, texturing, and attention to detail really speak to me. The first time I slipped on the Rootbeer Sweater, I couldn’t believe how great it made me look. And, I have had that experience with everything I’ve bought from the store. The moment I slip into something from Luminosity, I feel ten-times cuter. Sexier, but not trampy and embarrassed. I feel like a woman in Sol’s clothes–but not a girl, and definitely not a lady. Her clothes remind me strongly of the RL brands Eddie Bauer and J.Jill.
The new release, Wayfarer, is perfect for strolling a Pacific Northwest art faire, or picking apples in Vermont. The tweed skirt has awesome texturing, though I missed lower rise of her previous skirts. This one is still compliments my best feature nicely, without so much butt cleavage ;-). The paisley sweater has a gorgeous, marled-wool texture. I also loved the weave on the oxford shirt. It has an iridescence to it, but it is full length and opaque, unlike the one from Solera. If you like refined, town and country casual, then you just can’t go wrong with this set.
I opted to break up the set in the pictures, just to show you some options. Details are below.

I have the exact same reaction to meeting designers, I make it a point to say “OMG, its you, You’re famous” whenever I meet one I love Sol’s tops and jackets, I just wish the skirts were longer.
