Back to Basics: The Perfect Neutral Pants
By Choice Sliter | September 22, 2006
Nessinger Loveless of TART has introduced a collection of midrise, straight leg pants in five, neutral colors. At L$95 each, they are an easy purchase. The pants are simple and tailored. I especially like the crease detail and the sublte play of light. If you own rayon-blend pants in RL, these have a similar appearance.
Okay…a post about plain pants?
Well, there is a difference between wearing and outfit and having that outfit wear you. Some ensembles are just that, ensembles. They are collections of pieces that must be worn together and the final result is amazing. However, most outfits consist of pieces that can easily be broken up and worn with other things. Stocking basics like these pants in your inventory, allows you to turn September into office casual, or take Sophie from daytime playfulness to evening chic.
In other words, breaking up outfits with neutral pieces makes you look different from everyone else who bought that outfit. The look is yours, not the designer’s. If our second lives allow us to be the exact expression of ourselves that we want, why should we only wear an outfit the way someone else dreamed of it?
So, if all of your pants are buckled, striped, or patterned in some way, I recommend these great neutrals from TART. A tailored pant always looks more pulled together than jeans and these colors will go with just about everything in your wardrobe. You’ll be amazed sometimes at how simple grey pants matched with a well designed tank top can make you look like a million bucks.

Back to Basics: Updated Halter
By Choice Sliter | September 20, 2006
There are few things more annoying than walking around SL (or RL, for that matter) and running into your twin, dressed head to toe in the same outfit. For that reason, it’s nice to keep a supply of great basics in your inventory that you can use to reinvent an outfit or incorporate a trend. Ive used these newly-released, Ruched Wrap Halters by Dawning Concepts an an example of how to use an updated basic to enhance your wardrobe.
In the first outfit I have paired a cream tank with camel, plaid trousers. The pairing makes the outfit quite neutral, but it’s far from being a pair of dull khakis and a white oxford. The neutral palette allows the eye to be drawn to your accessories. I also like repetition of shape with the round earrings, round shoulder strap elements, and round button holes on the belt.
In the second look I have paired the light blue halter with a black skirt (base and prim are from different sets, see photo credits). All of the black here–from the hair to the skirt to the shoes–puts the halter front and center. The wrinkling and texturing are executed well enough that this basic doesn’t just have to play back up singer. She can take center stage when she wants to. Of course, proportion is also at play here, and there is a nice balance in the display of skin on the both arms and the legs. The cut of the bodice contributes to this.
Certainly we all have tanks and halters, but the chain link detail on these updates the look with a sexy, modern edge. The links are gold, which gives the tank more polish than if they were done in silver. Notice also that the ruching detail moves the eyes around the body, emphasizing every inch of your curves. It is conservatively (but not too much so) cut in the bust line. The designer has placed it on the jacket layer for length. I, personally prefer that my midriff not be exposed in every single outfit. However, my only gripe would be that using the jacket layer prevents the halter from being an optimal layering piece.
While the halter is a basic item, it is far from plain. It’s not just about picking basics, but the right ones. A well-textured halter like these is a must have for your collection.

Great post. I tend to mix and match less than I ought to. I was inspired by this post to do a bit too. Which I’ll blog….eventually. T.a..R..t.. really ought to change their name so it’s easier to find in a search. If someone had said go to Tart, I’d have never found them.
Posted by: CronoCloud Creeggan on September 22nd, 2006 at 10:22 pmYeah. Salome made a statement about this in a review I read from early August. I am of the belief that there should be as few barriers for your customers as possible, and having a searchable name is one of the simplest accomodations you can make. Plus, I can’t imagine that it doesn’t negatively affect sales. But I am looking forward to seeing your pics. Post soon.

Posted by: CronoCloud Creeggan on September 23rd, 2006 at 3:45 pmthanks for the note on the search criteria. I’ve added the words ‘TART clothing’ to my description, so people searching the for the shop will still easily locate it in the find tab. Hard for me to change the land name tho, cause, i just really like the way it looks. guess it’s just something i’ll have to deal with. thanks for the positive feedback tho, and i hope you enjoy the pants. :) ~ness
Posted by: nesssinger on September 24th, 2006 at 5:33 amYay. I just searched for TART and your shop now shows up, which it didn’t do before. So now customers will be able to find you easily, which is a VERY good thing :-)
