Transparency

1

I’ve decided that when I feature items here in the future, I will always include a few pieces of information in the interest of full disclosure and transparency to my readers. The first datum is, “Have I personally seen this item in world (as of the time of posting)?” Sometimes I have, and sometimes something in the forums has grabbed my interest. I often blog about things I don’t own yet so that I remember to go buy a copy next time I log in.

The second datum is “Did I get a review (i.e., free) copy of the item being promoted?” I’ve tried in the past to mention that in posts, but it’s been oblique sometimes — a passing fact, rather than a definitive statement.

The third datum is “Is this designer on my friends list?” I’m using my in world friends list as a rough approximation of “friendliness” that is not open to subjective judgment, because this is a mutually exclusive condition (e.g., someone is either on that list or not.)

That disclosure has to be tempered with the notion that we all have friends in world who aren’t on our friends list for one reason or another, and we have people in our friends list who aren’t “close” friends (but useful for one reason or another to keep in contact with.) Outside of this, I’ve been thinking, how does one judge friendliness exactly anyway? Just because a designer passed me an item, does that make her my friend?

I hope that using this information you can calibrate your own judgments about my opinions and endorsements. I want to permit you to salt my words with the right amount of grains.

As always, thanks for reading my blog.

Well, I think you need to unfriend me right away so that when you give Tete Deux a fabulous review, everyone knows it is because of how wonderful our new skin line is and not because we are friends. Hehe….seriously though, as someone who has a tiny bit of experience in RL journalism(ok, it was just 1 college course and writing on the school paper, hardly professial or anything) I do appreciate the efforts you are making as both a fashion lover and content creator.
