Hope by Tami McCoy

0

HopesunkissedI saw Tami’s latest hair Hope a few days ago, but I’ve been really busy trying to finish off the content for Second Style #4 so I haven’t blogged about it until today.

Hope is a collaboration between Rebel Hope, RH Engel and Tami McCoy — although the pieces are sold separately, you can get a coordinating top notch gown, a set of stunning matching jewelry, and this incredibly elegant french twist up do. Tami writes of it, “[I]t ain’t bad if I do say so myself…” Not at all. It’s definitely on the dressy side, but as she notes later in her blog post, it does look awfully good with the right kind of casual outfit (something a little bit dressier than not, in my opinion.) I was wearing it last night with Dazzle’s Heather LBD (Long Black Dress) and it looked so fabulous. Shop for it at Hair by Tami in Milu.

Hair sizing note: Tami’s hairs sometimes run a little large on my size 50 head. You may need to shrink them down a little to get a really good fit on a size 50 head.

Six Kennedy posted a note about a brand new group she started called “Fashion Emergency!” The idea is that people will ask the group where to find clothing, hair, shoes, etc that they haven’t been able to find elsewhere. It’s NOT a group to spam for Tringo invitations and Best in Birthday Suit at Club Randomname-That-Won’t-Live-Past-Two-Months. (Doing that sort of thing will get you ejected, so please don’t do it.)

The Fashion Emergency group is free to join, and hopefully will let us collectively rescue fellow fashionistas from looming fashion disaster.

Top Hot by Sahara Tyne

90616_1One of the many RSS feeds I have in my aggregator (insert plug for Newshutch here) is the last 20 items added to SL Boutique. Sometimes you just find interesting things there that don’t make it to a blog or forum post.

That’s a round about way of explaining how I came across this ubergothy tophat by Sahara Tyne. (Yes, a direct link to an item on SLB — no, I can’t ever find anything on there either! :D )
There’s actually two different top hats — this one and a variant which has a ring of claws. Totally cool finishing touch for the gothiest or steampunkish outfit in your inventory — either of these two hats will take the whole outfit all the way up to 11.

Linden Lab’s new fashion community website

Torley wrote to tell me that Linden Lab has established a new Fashion Community website where they feature various designers in “microblurbs” right in the middle of the page. If you’d like to get a listing, send an email to Jesse Linden.

Also, Pixel Pinup is listed on the landing page. Hooray!

Update: Second Style Vendors

1

Update 2: Last night I moved the network server from a plot in Guksu to my secret lair in Pi. When I got to Pi, I dropped the server and my viewer crashed. When I logged back in, the network server was gone from its old plot, gone from my plot, and gone from my inventory. Something in Second Life ate it!! (I know — most of us have “been there, done that.” Darn it!) So — I can’t believe I’m writing this — the vendors are ALL broken again until I can get a new server and set it up. (Hope that’s tonight or tomorrow though.)

Second Style colleague and ad sales diva Heather Dawn Cohen said she’s going to take this mess over from me. Thank you Heather Dawn — you are such a rock star! :D

Update: The new server key is

e083be93-ef40-c081-0b57-44a2cdad147e

You should be able to cut and paste that into your vendor’s notecard. Woot.

Because I am somewhat less than talented at LSL, I broke the in world Second Style vendors (again! Woo, go me.) But — I also fixed them finally last night.

I know all of the vendors have been offline for a while. I also know that a lot people have derezzed them. Well, everything is peachy again. To “fix” your vendor, you’ll have to paste a new server key into the notecard in the vendor. (I’ll write the new key in an update to this post later tonight.)

But, also if you’d rather, I can drop a new vendor on you with the correct server key. And this time I promise when you click the vendor you really will get a copy of the magazine!

I am very sorry for the inconvenience. I am also sorry it took me so long to figure out how to fix the problems. If I were as good at LSL as I am shopping, I guess maybe we wouldn’t have had these problems. :D

You are such a Rock Star!

RockstarYesterday, Canimal Zephyr wrote in her blog that her muse had left the building. But I guess it found some inspiration and came back with a vengeance. Check out Canimal’s brand new Body Grafitti named “Rock Star.” I just finished shooting a photo spread for Second Style #4 last week entitled “Rocker Girl!” I wish we would’ve had this to include — several other Body Grafitti’s are featured (actually in one shot our model is topless and shot from the back so you can see exactly how beautiful and intricate Canimal’s tattoo work looks.) You can shop Canimal in Celestial City — which is currently being rebuilt. For more information about that, check out this post on Starley’s blog.

Socialite chignon by Tami McCoy

0

SocialitesunkissedLast night I noticed that Tami McCoy had released a brand new short style — named “Socialite”, it’s a sophisticated and immaculate chignon updo. Definitely on the dressy side of the her recent designs, but oh so lovely. I paired it up immediately with Janie Marlowe’s new shorts and tights design and I felt like I was ready to go to work — except that it was a quarter to midnight. Aside from her new hair, Tami writes:

[W]ith the demise of the forums I will only be updating here [ed. her blog] once the forums are gone. So if you’re interested in keeping up to date, save this URL for the future. Also you can join the [in world] update group…

Tami’s blog’s in my feed reader, and I’m maxed out of groups, but Tami’s group members get freebie goodies and are always the first people to know when she’s got newness to ooh and aah over. You can get Socialite from Hair by Tami in Milu.

Second Man: Men’s Fashion Blog

1

Motorcycle_jacketNicholas Shaftoe (seen here sporting a motorcycle jacket from Zabitan Assia’s FORM) started a new fashion blog devoted to all things men’s wear in Second Life named The Second Man. I guess if you make shopping convenient enough even guys will start to like it! (Just kidding Nick!) Head over and check it out — it’s in my RSS aggregator. I’m always on the look out for new ways to bloat enhance my inventory.

The SKIN 2.0 launch party

0

Skin20openingAlaska Metropolitan wrote to let me know about the SKIN 2.0 by OPIUM launch party she’s holding on Sunday, August 20 from 1-3 pm SLT. There will be a lot going on — sales, live models, giveaways and other goodies over at her SKIN 2.0 store in Nimrod Yaffle. Sounds like it’ll be fun.

Update: In like Flynn

2

Grey_plaidUpdate: In the comments, Janie says that she has an optional layer on the jacket which does hide the tummy. So yay for that! Also, Tina wonders what boots Janie’s wearing in the ads. Those are Fallingwater Cellardoor’s “Old Boots” which you can buy at Shiny Things. (Search for “Shiny Things” in your viewer.)

Janie Marlowe posted three new outfits today to her brand new blog — all building on her favorite fall trend: shorts with tights.

I like that look too — especially in this sophisticated and dressy grey plaid. She’s right in noting that it’s cropping up in all of the real world fall fashion preview stories. I wish that Janie’d done the tops on the jacket layer for length — I think from a style perspective I’d prefer not to show off my tummy while wearing this look, but I concede it is a matter of personal taste — and in the case of Second Life perhaps an inherent limitation of the shirt layer.

Not into natty professorial plaid? No problem! Mischief still has you covered with the two other new outfits, both layered looks — one using an undershirt and the other a business casual-y sweater-over-oxford combo. Shop for it at Mischief on Illusion.

Checking in at Simone!

0

Snapshot_003It’s been a while since I saw new items from Simone Stern, so I decided I’d go find out what’s new — and there’s been a couple of new releases in just the past few days. The first new release is actually a large set of mix-n-match separates — tops by Simone and the bottoms by ShyOne Lehane. I really liked the way this strawberry pink embroidered cami and brown cords matched together, but if brown and hot pink aren’t your thing, there were at least 25 different options for the top, and 25 different pant choices — everything from hip hugging leather to cords to denim. The vendor set up was kind of cool too — you could click the top of the vendor, and it would leave the bottoms unchanged, and cycle through your choices of tops. When you had a whole outfit put together just so, you could pay the top portion of the vendor and buy the top, and then pay the bottom portion of the vendor and get your selected pants. It was a very clever shopping experience. Each top and pants cost L$125, pricing an entire outfit L$250.

The second release was a set of lacy babydolls named Kayleigh in 5 different colors. Simone does fantastic work with lace panels and these dresses do not disappoint. I didn’t have time to photograph them so you’ll just have to pop over to take a look at them — I really thought they were cute.

Speaking of shopping experiences, Simone has completely rebuilt her store. Before it was a multi-level shopping environment, and now she’s flattened things out, organized outfits by department (like “bridal” or “casual”) and sprinkled some teleporter signs around the sim to help you get where you want to go browse next. Have a look around yourself on Simone island.

In this photo: skin: Earthy (wheat makeup, Angel skin tone) by Ginny Talamasca and Lo Jacobs, Crushed; hair: Simplicity (dirty burnt) by Elika Tiramisu, ETD; necklace: Color changing Hearts by Starley Thereian, Celestial Studios; top: Strawberry cami by Simone Stern, Simone; pants: brown cords (DB-5) by ShyOne Lehane, DBS; shoes: Karma (ochre) by Nikki Clayton, Minx; on location: Stylehive HQ in Rivulet
