Nicky Ree’s Blossoms from Asia collection

By Celebrity Trollop | July 11, 2006

Blossoms_from_asia_posterI first found out about Nicky Ree from Sol Columbia when she arrived decked out in what Tuli Asturias described as “the best catsuit in SL” sporting two katanas and two guns. It was one of those moments where a shopping spree was required, because I happen to agree with Tuli’s assessment, and sword fighting with katanas is way fun.

Nicky Ree is back with two new releases, including this sarong kebaya design. While doing some research about this particular outfit, I found this nice Malaysian government tourism page talking about the Peranakan Chinese in Malaysia and this thoroughly Asian haute couture:

The intricate embroidery is equivalent to the best Venetian lacework. The pièce de résistance is a delicate needlework technique called tebuk lubang (literally to punch holes). This involves sewing the outlines of a floral motif on the fabric and cutting away the inside. When done correctly, the end result is a fine lace-like embroidery on the collar, lapels, cuffs and hem and the two triangular front panels which drape over the hips, known as the lapik.

It says in RL, a well made kebaya can cost several thousand riggits (3,000 MYR = US$820).

So it really caught my eye. Just like the RL garment demands, it’s obvious that Nicky has lavished a lot of attention on this item. Shop Nicky Ree’s Boutique in Yurim.
