New Designer: Wanda Rich, Pain and Pleasure

By Celebrity Trollop | May 19, 2006

MistressBurberry_001Last Wednesday, Wanda Rich released two new outfits, Mistress (shown top left), and Workout, a sort of Olivia Newton John style “Let’s Get Physical” workout set. What really intrigued me was Wanda’s use of fabric wrinkles, in latex, no less — something that’s pretty tricky to pull off even for designers who’ve been creating clothing in Second Life for a while. So I stopped by her store in Meribel to take a closer look.

As it happens, Wanda was logged in and I had a chance to talk briefly with her about her design methodology — she’s been working on clothes in SL for about 10 days now, but she has prior exposure to Poser and has been using Poser to render clothes and importing them to Second Life, hence the wrinkles. But as she pointed out to me, putting wrinkles and getting the lighting sheen right on fabrics like that is hard! True. But Mistress and Workout aren’t the only outfits she’s made — she also has some cute prim skirt outfits, a collection of colored fishnets, and a collection of sunglasses in different frame shades. In the photo bottom left, I’m wearing her “Burberry” (and is it ever!) prim skirt outfit. I really like the top, lace undershirt and the primskirt itself is great (the skirt even has pockets on the back! — nice and trendy to appease your inner fashionista) but the arm warmers and stockings in the same patterns are a bit much. The plus side is, though, that no one forces you to wear those items even though they come in the outfit package — you can always mix-n-match them with some other outfit, or just not wear them.

All in all, the outfits Wanda’s made so far are pretty good, and downright amazing for someone who’s been making SL clothing for all of 10 days. Find Wanda’s outfits at Pain and Pleasure in Meribel.
