New designer: Callie Cline of FUNK

Callie Cline is a new designer, but she’s not totally unknown. I wrote about her great line of “Cocktail Lounge” dresses, and the dynamic duo at Linden Lifestyles covered more of her clothes here. But hopefully after this weekend’s postings in the forums (here, here, here, and here — phew, I think that’s all of them!) the secret will be out: Callie Cline is talented and she makes wonderful clothing in many different styles and fashion tastes from couture to clubwear.
Although I think the forum posts comprise about 20 different outfits, I’ve highlighted two more of my favorites from her design work so far: Tied Up (top) from her “Street” line, and “Miss Bizness” (bottom) from her “Flair” line.
I wanted to choose looks that were really distinctly different from what I’ve written about before to show Callie’s design range and her wide roving tastes in different fabrics, looks and textures. Something that runs through all of Callie’s clothing is her attention to details — she has lovely seams, wonderful shading work and her clothes are just flat out appealing to look at. When I wore Miss Bizness to the Nymphetamine fashion show last Saturday, I had numerous compliments and questions about where I got the outfit.
Something else that’s really great about many of Callie’s designs is that you can mix and match a lot of them — even things you might not consider separates at first, like some of her gown designs. When I first met Callie at Hair Fair, she was wearing a gown bodice she was working on with a pair of embroidered blue jeans — it was a great look and definitely piqued my interest in trying to reuse some of the gown bodices already in my inventory. Maybe I could use the same trick? (I haven’t been as successful with it yet, but I keep experimenting.)
Callie’s store is called Funk in Elpenor, and she is still doing her “buy 3, get 1 outfit free” sale. So stop by and take a look — she’s only been working for a short time, but she has many many designs available.
