Flexiprims coming in 1.9.1?
By Celebrity Trollop | April 4, 2006
On April 1st, Garbage Prototype posted an April Fools prank about prim hair that moves, flows, doesnt flick, and “lives”. It was a joke - a very funny one, actually. (OK, I admit that I was fooled too! In my defense, I did uncheck “wear now” though!) Linden Labs is apparently preparing for flexible prim attachments in the 1.9.1 update!
Think of the possibilities: real flowing scarves that move in the wind, ponies that bounce when you walk, and realistic looking capes flapping behind your avatar are among the things which will become easier to create. In the demo movie by Torley, it looks like the flexiprims are handled client side and are non-physical. Hopefully that will reduce the strain of processing flexiprim movement on the physics engine (and consequently keep frame rates high.)
Also, it looks like lighting in hardware support will make its debut in 1.9.1 and as someone who looks at a lot of SL photography I am very excited to think we’ll be able to bring that kind of lighting depth and realism to our magazine layout.
