I’d like to wish all of our readers, and staff a very happy and health holiday season on behalf of myself and HeatherDawn Cohen. Second Style has had quite a busy year, and these last few months have seen some significant changes, but we aren’t done just yet! Keep your eye on us in the coming 2010, we’ve got tons more in store for you…

For our 30th issue, we are celebrating the Holidays, Second Style.

We’ve packed the pages of this issue with all things holiday related, including a very festive photo spread care of James Schwarz, complete with mistle toe & menorah! If you are searching for a holiday/winter themed sim, Dancien Graves has selected a few in Winter Wonderlands. Perhaps you are trying to scrounge up the perfect gift for that special someone, Gabby Panacek has been kind enough to take all the hassle out of your holiday shopping with To Top It Off. We are reintroducing an old article you might recall; Mini guide, and this month it features some seasonal footwear in the way of boots, and Ana Lutetia’s Fresh faces features the designs of elymode.

December’s Style Icon is the Miel duo of Miel Nirvana and Mika Nieuport, who have taken some time out from creating to chat with our Brigitte Belgar. We were also lucky enough to have guest contributor Zoe Demar, who’s finished off 2009 with a gorgeous New Year’s Eve photo spread.

And finally we would like to welcome to our staff the lovely and talented Vega Arida, who is also bringing back on of Second Style’s older features; The Look, where you can find Vega trimming the tree in perfect style.

The task of showing you (and raving about) everything I bought, hunted down, and was given during the biggest virtual shopping weekend of the year was so overwhelming it made prim tears fall from my pixilated face.  Instead of taking weeks to do it, I decided to piece together a bunch of looks to showcase the newest treasures making my inventory bulge.

Shiryu Musashi, the creator of Musashi-Do recently released December Warth, a retro inspired, dress length coat that has so much style it hurts. This gorgeous houndstooth pattern comes in several colors. And, because he loves you – it’s 20% off for the next three days!  Score! I’m wearing it with Zaara’s Ishaya velvet pants to add a casual relaxed look to this structured jacket.

This is color Teal and each is more gorgeous than the next. I can’t pick a favorite, you can’t make me.

The next must have for this winter season is from Hilarious creator Kesseret Steeplechase. It’s a gorgeous stylized military coat and I think this is a great casual coat, but again with a very structured style.

If you don’t like the structured style of the first two……I have an alternative that is still on my MUST HAVE’S list. Sysy’s Luna jacket. With delicate frog closures and a rich deep texture in each color, this jacket is a perfect fitted look for you girls who like to show off those curves.

I’m also wearing earrings from Dark Mouse’s latest release – the Stacie earrings. They are SO cute I may never take them off.

I thought I would take a moment to share some pictures from our first SL Thanksgiving!

I had no plans in RL this year to go out for Thanksgiving, and would pretty much be home alone when I first started to arrange this.  I was excited to see that so many people, whether they were home alone like me, or from another part of the world and just curious to experience it, wanted to join.

So Tenshi Vielle and I got together and set up a nice looking “Home”  to throw the shindig, and I was very lucky to have The Loft provide us with a gorgeous table to celebrate our feast at!  Thanks so much Colleen!  The table is fantastic, because the runner is color change, and so are the chairs, so you can alter the set for your mood.  It also comes with a great looking sideboard, and accessories galore… I particularly liked the table settings, which were perfect for the Thanksgiving look.  I do think it will also look wonderful for a potential Christmas dinner, and highly recommend it.

At any rate, we had a wonderful time, with a bunch of good friends, sitting around the table and eating our feast, while chatting and laughing together.  It was really special to have so many friends from around the world who’d never been to an American Thanksgiving dinner participate!

Of course everyone came dressed in the Turkey Day best…so have a look at what everyone sported;

No Thanksgiving feast is complete without the food that sticks to all of the others.

Brig channeled the mashed potatoes that will occupy a central spot on her dinner plate using Anya Ohmai’s billowy ruffled Emma top and soft, creamy colored leggings.  I like that the lacy tulle poking out of the bottom offers such sharp contrast to the rest of the top, don’t you?  The earmuffs and legwarmers emphasize the cozy, comforting feeling I get when I nom on mashed potatoes– as do Atomic’s adorable little bunny flop slippers.  I want a pair just like this to wear in RL.  /me vows to search some out on Black Friday.

Since I’m anxious to spend my holiday weekend with my family, I probably won’t get a chance to wish you all fantastic Thanksgivings and even better Black Fridays!  Make sure you take a break from what promises to be an amazing Black 50L Friday in-world and catch some of the RL deals, too.  For tips on Black Friday shopping (in any world), make sure to take a peek at this month’s issues of Second Style– I had a postcard from a reader on the issue.

Tonight I’ve got two pages to share with you from my field notebook.  Consider it an extra serving.

First, there’s corn.  I always decorate my plate with as many veggies as possible, not only to give the spread some color, but to make myself feel better about the less-than-healthy foods I surround them with.  (It’s truly a wonder I’m not grossly obese– thank you, metabolism).  The most popular thing to do with corn around my Thanksgiving table is to float it in pools of gravy and eat it with mashed potatoes, though they also make great bullets for food fights.

Second, there’s stuffing– my favorite Thanksgiving dinner dish.  I drizzle gravy on mine (while the gravy lasts) and zap it in the microwave the next day for a wildly satisfying Black Friday power meal.  Part of why I rejoice in stuffing is because my family doesn’t waste time with the wretched store-purchased variety– we make it from scratch using my Grandma’s renowned recipe.  Though he won’t admit it, I have a sneaking suspicion that my family’s stuffing recipe is one of the reasons my husband married me.

Oh yes, it’s that scrumptious.

Gravy is rarely acknowledged as the crucial condiment it is.  At my Thanksgiving feast, diners of all ages jockey for as much gravy as possible; they hop from table to table to snatch abandoned gravy boats, dump a little more than really necessary onto their plates, and even exchange coarse words with whoever is unfortunate enough to polish off the pot.

Like my favorite turkey day topping, Brig’s gravy ensemble is warm, indulgent, and rich.  Every piece chosen for this outfit is something that could serve as the perfect topping for another ‘do– a dainty headband, a chunky necklace, a loose-fitting sweater, classic leggings, and clunky cowgirl boots.  Even if you can’t get your hands on them all (I can’t have all the gravy on the table, either), an extra drop or two here or there is, in my humble opinion, completely justifiable.

I’ve honestly never been a huge fan of cranberry sauce with my Thanksgiving fare.  I find it an almost overly sweet contrast to the warm comfort foods I typically heap my plate with. That said– the table surely wouldn’t be complete without it.

Brig’s ensemble is meant to evoke the loud, tart flavor of cranberry sauce.  Exile’s spunky ‘Jenna’ hair and LeLutka’s boldly colored ‘Tess is on a Mission’ served as the inspiration for the entire ensemble.

Even if you’re not keen on cranberry sauce, slap a spoonful onto your plate for the nutritional value.  Did you know this little fruit helps fight plaque and kidney stones and has even been shown to have cancer-fighting potential?  Coincidently, Brig’s outfit does the same.
